Question "How'd you do it so fast" ~ Answering Questions at the Gym

So I've been going the the gym for a few months now, and I've met a few girls there that workout at the same times I do. They're not "gym rats" but they're not Obese either. Just normal/average looking girls who might want to lose 5-10 pounds by Summer or keep healthy and fit by going to the gym a few days a week. Now keep inmind, I haven't told anyone at the Gym about my surgery. I didn't want to be judged. But over the last 6-7 months they've really taken a notice to my weight loss. A few nights ago a girl came up to me and said something like, "Tell me your secret. It'll be sfe with me" Like maybe she assumed I was taking drugs or had surgery or something. I told her the same thing I told everyone else that should mind their own business. I changed my diet, don't eat bread or a lot of carbs, don't drink liqour or soda and I excersize. But on the other hand, there's a girl there that is my "workout partner" 1-2 days a week that really is struggling with her few (post-baby) pounds and she really thinks that all I'm doing is a change in diet and excersizing. I feel a little bad about not telling her the truth, but I just don't want it to get out to the whole gym and I don't want the stares and people to pass judgement. I'm worrried that either she thinks I'm a complete liar or like I said earlier...I'm on drugs or coke or something to have lost so much weight so fast.

Such a fast weight loss being watched by those at the gym has brought on the questions. Any advice on what I should do to tell her? Or maybe how I should handle the questions?

I can' wait to have on of the nosey trainers ask me one day.... That'll be ggrrreatttt

To be quite honest with you. I say its you're business and you have every right to disclose what you feel comfortable with. You're advice isint off either. People don't need surgery to loose 50lbs even 250lbs. Diet and exercise is all that is required.

The problem is most people lack the real discipline it takes to make great strides quickly. The reality is those first 30-45days for me were all surgery but, after that the rate at which you loose is up to you're body type, how much you have to loose, and how hard you work.

So you telling them proper eating and working out is spot on. The only reason i've lost what I have is because of my eating and working out...thats it. There is no miracle surgery no miracle pill It simply don't exist.

You're great results are as much attibuted to the fact you are eating healthy and smaller normal portions tied with great workouts as the fact you're stomach is smaller than normal.

All the surgery does is help give you a window. Don't kid yourself. The reason you are kicking so much butt is because you are working you're tail off and eating right. You are making it happen. Not the surgery.

Sorry to rant like that but, its important people realize their results rely on them and them alone. I think you are letting the surgery take way too much credit for what you are doing.

I also say disclose what you wish. If you don't feel comfortable telling people then don't tell them. period. You are doing great!!

I don't want you to take this the wrong way and I am in no way telling you what to do but I tell everyone who asks exactly how I am loosing weight. I am not ashamed and I don't care what judgement is passed. Others opionions changes nothing. This was the very best thing for me. I am healthy, look good and if that offends folks then bad on them. You are working hard and you did not by any means take the "easy way out". Be proud. I have met no-one who would dare say a negative word to me about my surgery. I have only possitive comments and I have some snobby, weight-watcherish friends. I think if you are cool with your tool, others will be too.
Just my 2 cents and congratulations on your great success.

I tell people selectively... based on how close we are, how much I care for them to know, and then there are the people who just don't matter to me... I have told everyone at work (I work with about 70 people) and all people in my daily home life... for others (acquaintance who work in my building, or see me at soccer or karate) who ask how I do it, I tell the truth - low fat, low sugar, low carbs, and smaller portions... they can't handle the truth! Haha!

I am in the same boat Jen...sort of. I feel like I am lying to all my friends at school because NO ONE there knows. And I actually like it that way. However they have seen me change and have been asking me for my secrets and diet tips for months now. There are a few people in my class that do need to shed some and I feel like a HUGE imposter by not telling them the whole story. But I have purposely chose not to share that part of myself with "friends" from school. I feel so guilty, like I am lying by not telling them. Sorry I don't have any advice for you but atleast you know someone else is having a similar delima.

I'm the same way. I am selective on who I tell what to. My close friends, family and all my co-workers and a few very close clients know about it. It's not for everyone to know, and sometimes I do get sick with all the questions. But I agree with you and what you tell people, "low fat, low sugar, low carbs, and smaller portions".

I tell only who I want to tell. It's nobody's biz but mine. It's not about shame or being afraid of criticism. It's about my privacy. I actually lost a job over it, because they could see I was ill after the surgery and found another reason to let me go. Good news is that they are willing to rehire me now as I'm about a month away from wellness! J

I don't tell anybody anymore that I just meet because I've been post-op for so long and it is a real struggle to get the last 20-30 lbs. off. In a sense all you have really done was change your eating habits and exercise. I mean yea, you had surgery, but you are still doing it the right way by eating better. You just needed that extra kick in the butt to keep you in check. I would just tell her it's all diet and exercise.
