Varies - Ususally 4-5 days per week: start with 20-30 minutes of cardio, and alternate days of working arms and legs and I incorporate abs every time. Then I finish up with 20-30 minutes of cardio and stretching. One of the days, I group train, and we do some major calastenics other fun stuff that cripples you the next day How often do you workout? 4-5 days per week
How long do your workouts last? 1.5-2 hours
How often do you change your routine? All the time
What do you use as motivation to keep working out? My clothes, and the fear of gaining anything back, and right not being in the very nest shape possible for my next surgery.
Do you struggle to be consistent, or does it come easily now? Nope - it is automatic, and if something happens where I can't get to the gym, I get very pissy and antsy...and my body even aches...
Thanks!

Hope this helps

Thanks everyone! Everyone's routines are so different. I'm thinking after I get into a routine, I might try out a personal trainer. I've never been to one though, so I'm not sure what to expect.

LoriAnn, first I would like to say this really helped me as well. I have been struggling with working out and being consistent. I am just over 2 months post op and not working out consistently has made me feel like a failure. So to see everyones answers has really helped me as well. So thanks for posting.
Do you workout? Yes
When did you start working out consistently? Still Working on it.
What is your workout? Exercise bike mostly. Have tried the stability ball, yoga and walking, trying to start with weights as well
How often do you workout? working on getting in 5 days a week most often though I am doing about 2 - 3 days a week low intenstity
How long do your workouts last? I started out with about 20 minutes but trying getting at least 30 minutes to 60 minutes
How often do you change your routine? All the time, can't figure out what to stick with
What do you use as motivation to keep working out? Toning up, losing weight, feeling better Huge struggle for me to find the motivation
I wish I was consistent. They say it takes a while for something to become automatic. I dream of the day that exercise is just automatic to me.

Sorry I didn't answer earlier--between recent exhaustion and a torn meniscus, I've been taking some time off. Here's what I advise my clients--I'm a fitness director at a Nautilus Fitness Club:
Start slow! Most people's routine should be as follows if they go to the gym five days a week:
Cardio (treadmill, bike or elliptical) - 10 minutes to begin, work up to 20-30 minutes.
Resistance (weight machines or free weights) - upper body one day, lower body and core (back, abs, obliques) the next day.
Stretch - paying particular attention to the part of the body you worked.
Cardio - 10 minutes, work up to 20-30.
Much has to do with how much time you have to work with. If you work out every other day but have more time, then work through the whole resistance line, upper, lower and core.
Personal trainers will help if you want very specific exercises, but this is the basic program I start all our clients in, and then give them advice for specific areas they want to work on.

Do you workout?
Yes
When did you start working out consistently?
I've worked out 2-3 times a week for about 7 months.
What is your workout?
15 minute jog/run on the Treadmill
30 reps on the bench press
30 reps on leg press
30 reps on leg lift
30 reps on leg curls
25 reps on some weird machine that works my inner thighs
30 reps on a machine where I pull a bar down (sorry some of these aren't more technically named, but I just sort of found stuff I liked and that worked areas I need )
30 reps bicep curl
30 reps on a tricep machine
60 reps on ab crunches
60 reps on freaky back machine
20 more reps on bench if I'm up to it
35 minutes on the eliptical to cool down
How often do you workout?
2-3 times a week
How long do your workouts last?
An hour to an hour and a half
How often do you change your routine?
Seldom
What do you use as motivation to keep working out?
The mirror and my own sense of self loathing.
Do you struggle to be consistent, or does it come easily now?
No struggle at all.

Angie,
I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with working out and being consistent. Its something that I'm working on constantly. Years ago I used to workout consistently 6 days a week, so I know I can do it and enjoy it, its just a matter of discovering what I like, and doing it.

Lisa, Thanks for the help. I will use your suggestion to help me create my workout plan. I've been attending water aerobics classes and really enjoy them, so I will be working that in as well.

One thing I should have added - any aerobics-type class can count as your cardio for a given day...
