Angry I need a good kick in the...

hiney!

I'm not sure I'm posting in the right area for this or not, but here it goes...

I used to be a swimmer- I'd swim 2 miles in the mornings, several days a week as recent as 4 years ago. I figured swimming is my key to getting more active again. I just bought a new suit so that I could start up my swimming again. Sounds good so far, right?

My problem? I pulled into the parking lot at the gym and couldn't get out of my car...I just sat there watching people walk in and out of there-- and then started to cry.

My gawd...I go through all of this and have surgery a few weeks ago and I can't even walk into a gym, because I'm afraid people will look at me??

Logically...my head is saying, "Sara, to get from point A (where you're at), to point B (a thinner healthier you), you need to MOVE!"

Now...how do I get my head, to move my feet and hiney into the gym??

I have been where you are. Perhaps get a workout friend or a trainer so that you are accountable to meet someone..until you are comfortable going in on your own. You could also find an inspirational picture of a thin person that you could keep in your car for moments like that Hang in there - it DOES get better...I am now a gym rat at TWO gyms!!!!!!!!!!!

Sara don't get me wrong we all want to hide behine out fatness a time or two but sooner then later you are going to have to throw the pitty party out the window and go for what you want. If you don't break the mold now, WHEN? Sara I know it is hard to come from behind the obesity but so many have done it, why not you as well. When you want something bad enough you will go after what you want. I am rooting for you Sara.

Wow, that is a tough one. I agree that you should hold your head high and go for what you want and what is healthy for you. Anyone judging an obese person exercising is not someone whose opinion counts. But I understand the insecurities and that this is all about growth and a process. So, if you can't muster it yet or don't have a friend who will join you, you could always start by walks until you feel ready to conquer this. But again, I say don the suit and go for it.

Good lord, you aren't even a month out from your surgery! Walking is enough effort right now! You don't have to get into a bathing suit until you're ready. Yes, you need to move, but I wasn't even allowed to set foot into a public pool until six weeks out from the surgery because of the possibility for infection.

Stop beating up on yourself and pick a different exercise for a bit that doesn't make you cry. Believe me, once you've peeled off about 50 or 100 pounds or so, you'll be glad to get in a bathing suit. I live in mine at this point...

Thanks-great input Lisa!!! I talked with my surgeon about it at my check up and my lap incision are healed now, where he said I was free and clear to get in the pool without risk of infection.

I am trying the walking gig-- as strange as it sounds at over 300#'s, I'm just suddenly feel how "heavy" I really am when I'm trying to walk for longer periods of time. I just have to buck-up and realize that I have to work back into things.

Thanks again you guys!!!
