Default Unexpected angels?

I had the most unexpected support "angel" last evening at work. I just wanted to share the experience because it really touched me.

I work in a regional burn center as an RN but occasionally I am "pulled" to work in the surgical/medical critical care department. One of the critical care physicians has so unexpectedly shown me support post-op. This isn't a doctor I know real well but enough to know each other by name. Ever since he found out I had WLS he frequently has asked me how I'm doing whenever we do happen to pass in the halls. Last evening, once again he wondered how I was doing. Of course he wanted to know all of the "doctor" things, like my weight loss, joint pain, breathing, blood sugars, etc and he was thrilled when I told him how much all of those have improved since surgery. He looked truly happy for me and told me, "As a friend I have been worried about your health and I just wanted you to know how proud of you I am for making this decision and how happy I am for you. I really am!" I have to tell you it almost made me cry, I was so touched by his words. He is a doctor who takes care of the patients in the ICU which occasionally includes WLS patients. He knows what can go wrong but still he is a true supportor of this surgery. His comments have really reinforced in me that I have made the right decision.

So, I'm just curious. Has anyone else experienced an unexpected angel after surgery? If so, I would love to hear about it.

How amazing! In a world where we get ridiculed, here's someone with some honest, genuine support and caring. Who wouldn't love to have him as their doctor?

I had a friend who I told.....I thought for SURE she was going to give me crap about the surgery, but she was so ultra-supportive, and she told me she was proud of me for making such a hard decision to do this, and that I was beautiful, no matter what my choice was. And that she'd always be here for me. Who wouldn't want a friend like THAT?

I have had several "angels" in support of my surgery. First, the doctor that performed the surgery. He knew how bad I wanted to have it and made it happen. Secondly, my boss. Not only did he allow me the time off but also helped pay for the surgery. Lastly, the week after I returned to work, one of my client's called. He had called while I was out having surgery. He did not know that I had had surgery but wanted to know if everything was ok. I decided to tell him about the surgery. He was so supportive and ended our conversation by telling me if I needed anything, finanacial or otherwise to let him or his wife know. I was truly touched by his support.

Carolyn, it sounds like you have a true friend. I'm glad you have an unexpected angel with you giving you strength and encouragement.

He is a wonderful and skilled doctor. I have always admired his sensitivity as he deals with so many extremely difficult situations. He honestly cares about all of the patients he comes in contact with.

CajunWoman,

Wow! What a wonderful boss you have! You know I truly appreciate all of those who are supporting me but there is something about those unexpected angels that have touched me so deeply. It sounds as if you have been blessed with the same.

Beth, YOU are a true angel. I admire you for the work that you do. I could NEVER work in a burn unit. When we get patients in the PICU that have burns I freak out. I have no idea what to do with them. We aren't set up for burn patients at all. THeir IS an adult burn unit at our facility but none for the kids. I quit smoking after helping with a really bad burn patient (13 year old, fell asleep with a cigarette). She died. It was horrible. Please give yourself a big old hug from me for doing your very hard job.

Anyhoo, I'm glad others are so supportive. I have received tremendous support from my friends and co-workers and it's great. I'd be lost without them.
