Default Problem with Eating

Ok, now it is my turn to whine and cry. I have been torturing myself and learning the hard way. Everytime I sit down and eat, I eat too much and make myself miserable. Could it be that my body is starving for nutrients or am I eating too fast, or am I just being greedy by taking one too many bites? I am constantly eating steak and it makes me feel a lot stronger. With me being anemic, it helps a lot. For all of you who know of my malnutrition and all, food is mandatory for me. I just feel like I am eating too much and I am able to do so. It is just that I always take one too many bites and then suffer for a 1/2 hour. I guess I need to slow down and have a little more self control. Anyone else have this problem? I am 11 weeks out and afraid of eating more and being miserable. Help??

Unhappy Eating too much?

Hey Dale,

Yeah, I've been having little fits of anxiety lately in regards to my weight loss & eating habits. I was just talking to Christina, Kim, & Phil about it on "chat" yesterday afternoon. I really think we need to be careful about how much we eat, how fast we eat, etc., but truthfully, I think it's our minds playing tricks on us.

If you find any way to deal with this, do tell. This part of the recovery process is much harder than I anticipated.

Default Dale,

I'm doing the same thing. It's so weird, because one day I can eat more than another day. Sometimes, I can eat a half cup of refried beans, then the next day I try the same amount and I'm tired and hurting. I have caught myself taking larger bites of food and not chewing as well as I should!
It takes a conscious effort to eat, plan to eat, plan to drink, plan your vitamines so that you don't take calcium with your iron, it just takes work.

I'm working on it too! Hang in there! If you've got news to pass on - do tell!

I'm so glad to hear that you are getting your strength back!

Ok guys I'm 11 1/2 weeks out. You know I had this problem like the 4 or 5th week out I think. Heck I don't know any more because my memory has gone down the drain. Thank God for Christina telling me I'm not alone but I'm losing my memory..LOL Any way what I've done is slow down I try to take about 20 mins to eat my little amount. It seems to help me a lot. I take a bite, chew really well, talk a little and then take my next bite. I hope this helps guys.

Exclamation Ahhhhhhh The good ole days.. lol

Dale,

You may be eating one too many bites. Remember that solid protein takes up a lot more space in your tiny pouch then say soft foods like mashed potatoes or whatnot. I know you KNOW this but just a reminder.. Also for me personally I have been doing the same thing and making myself miserable. This is what I have resorted to doing..

I don't know why this is but lately I have had this problem where I don't realize I have eaten too much and then all of a sudden I stand up and it hits me. For some reason my pouch doesn't seem so small when I am sitting to eat but stand up and whoa!! it hurts.. now I stand and eat.. lol It seems to be working so far and I am not so miserable afterwards..

I sure hope you figure out what works for you.. I hate to see you feeling miserable.. take care sweetie.. and get well soon.. Love ya..

Angry Eating problem

Dale,
This was the hardest part of the whole process for me. It took me a long time to get a handle on portion size. Here are a few things that worked for me.

Measure your food with a measuring cup. If you know about how much you can eat, 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup etc. Measure that out onto your plate. Always go a little less vs. a little more.

Use a small bowl or plate, I use a 1 cup ramakin or bowl.

Use a baby spoon or fork.

Eat slowly! Take some time between bites to decide if you are still hungry. When you feel satisfied STOP! Get up and throw the rest away! This was very hard for me.

Don't let yourself get too hungry. If I get too hungry before I eat, I eat to fast and too much and feel miserable. Even now.

Good Luck, and I know you will get the hang of this.

Default I am gonna try!

Thanks everyone.
I am happy that I am not the only one having this problem. I am going to concentrate on measuring my food and slowing down. I hope I can do it.

I always hear Kelly's voice saying, "There's three things that will make you suffer; eating too fast, eating too much, or not chewing well."

Default Problems with eating

I have had the same problem and it was because I ate to fast, too much I am not sure of which one. Yes, the solid protein fills up the pouch I found that out the hard way, by getting sick. It has made me not want to eat steak. I had another problem I had taken my meds and the Actigall capsule got stuck and I refuse to be in pain and made myself throw up. Since my surgrey I have gotten sick three times. Once I found out that I can relieve myself my putting my fingers in my throat and making myself throw up. I didn't hestitate this last time. That knot feeling that in my chest is so scarly to me. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
