Default new to this

well all I am new to this and I just got my referrral for General Surgery here in Colorado. I have decided the Gastric bypass route is the only left solution. Honestly, I am terrified. I wonder if they'll say no or if i'll have skin hanging all over. Can anyone whos had it give me more info.?

I just need the emotional support now of those who have already done this. Laurel

Default welcome, welcome.

Hi Laurel and welcome. You say that you got your referral for the surgery or to see the surgeon to see if you qualify? If it is the first, you have already been approved and they can not deny you. If it is the latter, you just have to wait and see and go through the motions and not give up.

I think the majority of us were terrified, I know I was! I am still terrified even after. Time will change that and it gets better.

As for the skin, I think yes. But it also depends on a lot of stuff, how much weight you loose, how old you are and exercise. I havent gotten to the skin hanging part yet, but I am hoping that since I elasticity in my skin that it wont be that bad? but I am preparing for it mentally.

Good luck and again welcome.

Hope

You'll have to get use to the skin or find the means to get it removed. I only have known 2 people out of hundreds, who didn't need any reconstructive surgery at all. Even with skin removal, your skin still isn't as tight and toned as someone who was never overweight. You won't know how you will look until you get to your goal weight.
