yes the lovely bay bridge...isn’t it nice how they tell us it will be closed indefinably. I understand though because after i saw what happened i told hubby...we are not driving on that bridge again..well at least until they open the new one

I think explaining to your dr and asking if he knows anyone in your area may be the easiest. Bariatric surgeons do know other ones since they go to the same conferences, classes together. You might lucky and he knows one in your area. If not starting calling around with whoever your insurance has on their list.

My surgeon is in walnut creek and he knew of a support group closer to my home(central valley) so he asked that surgeon if I could join his support group since i didn’t feel like driving to walnut creek every 2 weeks.

I agree it should be as easy as asking your Dr for a referral. But from my personal experience working in the medical field it isn't. Most Dr.'s are counting on your money. They often have ego's also. And by saying you are leaving one for another for what ever reason drives most crazy. They aren't all like that but many are. I have even seen practices "fire" patients who have gone in saying they are thinking about switching offices. Their reasons were that you as the client were no longer on board with the team so they wanted you gone now.

Now if you have a really good relationship with your Dr. then I would agree. Good luck.

Thanks for all your replies! I am hoping I can do this without stepping on toes. I really do like my surgeon, I just can't get the strength to make the drive. I am going to my pcp today to see if he can order some IV fluids for me, maybe I will feel better after I get them. I have just had a hell of a time with this whole process. It's only been 4 weeks so, I know it will get better. I also feel like I have been losing too fast. I'm not complaining, I love to see the weight fall off but, I don't want to have issues later down the road either. We shall see! Kelly, I am glad to see you're back. You offer a lot of good advice!

I lived on G2 Gatorade to help with dehydration and it did! Sipped away at if all day. I used the G2 because its got less sugars and sodium. It might help!

I switched surgeons a week or two pre op because I wanted a procedure that was not offerd by my original sugeon. It took them by surprise but it was not the end of the world. I was a self pay. New surgeon ended up charging more and beginning 4 mos post op, charges $450 per appt. I switched all my records to my PCP and she handles my follow up care. Thiungs like dehydration and nutritional deficiencies can be handled by your PCP. You just may need to coach him/her on what the nutritional markers are that need to be followed (and that info is avail. on TT or at the american society of bariatric surgeons site.)

That being said, if you still ned to be under a bariatric surgeons care, your need for more reasonable logisitcs should cause no offense at all to your existing surgeon. I would not be afraid to ask him if he can refer you to someone closer who would be willing to take on another's patient.
