Default Falling into a funk

6 week post op today and I have fallen into a funk.

I know that I have ALOT going on right now with the weight loss, change of seasons, and my marriage. All of that added to being overseas and away from family.

I have a wonderful group of friends here that offer way more support than I ever imagined, but only one of them has been through this process.

I am happy with my weight loss and with the way my clothes are fitting. I am more than pleased with my surgery and results so far. So why the funk?

I know the chemical imbalances that come with losing weight and the effects it has on your mental status. I have taken steps to help with this funk, I am going to talk to a counselor today and I also plan on getting a little more exercise in to see if that will help.

Any other ideas or suggestions are welcomed.

I'm in the exact same place as you. About 4 weeks out, overseas away from my family, relationship messed up, 3 week period, scale hates me/loves me, can eat, then can't eat, stupid seasons changing (I hate that one!!!), being sooo cold, so unsure of the future.

It'll be okay. I think the most important thing for me is just trying to put it all out of my mind and be positive. It hurts so bad, but a couple hours of cardio and weights and I feel like I can take on the world. Just focus on exercise, protein, and water and you will be so busy you won't have time to think about the rest. At least that's what I'm trying to do.

I have to agree with Josephine. Sometimes the world seems like it's all on your shoulders but staying focused is the "key"! I am really trying to stay focused and lose 30lbs by year end. I am down 3lbs more so now I am 295 and happy. The scale may be moving slowly but it's moving. This what truly makes me happy.

So I know that I am a newbie here but everyone gets into a funk sometimes. I call mine the "pits of despair" but a funk is a funk. Here are a few things that I do to get out of the "pit" (and I have excluded exercize as it has already been mentioned.):
1. Take a bubble bath

2. Read my favorite book

3. Watch my favorite movie--"pits of despair" is from this movie

4. Go to the local animal shelter and take one of the dogs for a walk or play with them, this helps both you and the dog have a better day.

5. Do something for someone else, service for others helps you as much as it helps the person you are doing the service for. I.E.: Read to the elderly, take a treat to your local police or fire station with a note saying thank you, and my new personal favorite is writing letters to Service men and women who are away from home and family.

I hope this helps someone as much as it helps me. Heaven bless you all, you have been through the fire and come out pure gold. You are an inspiration to those of us still waiting. Finally, remember that even though you are having a rough time right now it is temporary, it will pass and you will get through this. Until then ((HUGS))!

It is normal to go through some lows post operatively with WLS; the change you are undergoing are multi faceted and itis a lot to process physically and emotionally. Have a good psyc to turn to if you can, and just know it is a normal part of the process and it will pass. Good luck.

Thanks guys!! I went to a counselor today and I must have lucked out because her speciality is bariatric patients. She will be here for the next three months and has agreed to meet with me again.

Instead of driving down to the clinic I walked.
