Why would I feel guilty? If I had a bad tooth that needs plucking out because it poses a risk to my health, looks bad and feels painful would I hesitate to go to the dentist to get it fixed? Of course not. Neither do I feel guilty about fixing an overly huge stomach that made me feel hungry all the time and resulted in my morbid obesity, made me look terrible and caused me physical ailments and emotional pain. I have no guilt. Look at it this way. As an obese person you risk dying at an earlier age. By having the surgery you can increase your life span (potentially) and spend that time doing more Christian work and ministry for Jesus. I am sure he will understand.

Food is an addiction and like all people who suffer from addiction, if we want to get better we must grasp at everything God provides. You wouldn't want a meth addict to feel guilty for seeking rehab and for taking prescription methadone to get better would you?

I once heard a parable about a man of faith whose home was in the path of a great flood. As the flood waters were rising and he stood ankle deep in the water the rescue workers arrived in an abulance and offered him a ride to safety. "Nonsense... the Lord my God will save me!" Hours later the man has had to travel to his roof top to escape the waters when the rescue workers come by in a boat. "Nonsense! The Lord my God will save me!" Finally the man is treading in the water up to his neck when the rescue workes attempt for a last time to save him in a helicopter. "Nonsense! the Lord my God will save me!" Well the man dies. When he reaches heaven he is flabbergahsted. He approaches God and asks, "Lord! Why did you forsake me and let me drown?" God replies, "Forsake you? I sent you an ambulance, a boat and a helicopter!"

God will provide the means for us to heal ourselves and to better our lives, we just have to accept it when he offers it.
Very good points. God helps those who help themselves.

For that reason, I would prefer to talk to you as just a man, rather than as something or someone that others should emulate.

I felt guilty about overeating before VSG. About abusing my body without thinking about it consciously. Nibbling, business lunches, ice cream socials, or as Bama points out, covered dish suppers at church. I felt guilty about the ever increasig dimension of my belt. About my cholesterol numbers, abut my inability to lose weight no matter what I did. Obesity is a disease and should be thoug of that way, not simply a lack of will power.

No I dont feel guilty one bit. I feel no more guilty about my sleeve than I did when I got my tonsils taken out. They were a problem and had to go. Or if I had to have an appedectomy. We're blessed to live in an age where there are now surgical solutions to this problem. The results have been amazing for me.

One other thing. I didnt put a little fish on my rear bumper, although my dear 77 year old Mother gave me one for that purpose. Unfortunately, I dont always drive like a Christian either.

I just read what you posted, even though it was a few pages back, and all I can say is Amen. You are so right. I am a Christian, and I try so hard to live right, but just as you stated I don't always drive live a Christian. Thank God for forgivness, not just from him but from others as well. Also you made me think of something in the bible. If they right arm offends they then cut it off. Well to me that makes sense, because we let our stomach offend us be eating to much, so we had to go and cut some of it off. LOL

That parable is so good. I must cut and paste it and keep it. Brings the point home very well.! Thanks for posting it!

Well said Delane. My oversized stomach offended me so I had it turned into a sleeve. Forgot about that. Never will say Im perfect...or even "good" for that matter. Just forgiven, imperfect as I am.

I thought about posting that one but was beaten to it. Love that story. So appropriate for Christians that want to put God in a box that they themselves construct to align with their own dogmas. God works in mysterious ways.
