Default health issues 18 months out

I am 58 and had my roux n y 4/2008. I have lost 140# lbs. I am pleased with my weight loss. But since the surgery I have developed Raynaud's Syndrome, I have just had my GB out and during that surgery an omental hernia repair. I wouldn't go back to my old weight but for me there have been issues. Just venting sitting here recuperating. Art

Interesting! I never heard of Raynauds being caused by gastric bypass! How did they connect it to the surgery rather than just a coincidence that you had surgery and came down with Raynauds?

I have read that H-Pylori can cause Raynauds.. we usually are tested for this pre-op since it can cause problems healing post-op.. do you know if you were tested for this? (H-pylori is a bacterial growth in your stomach).. also smoking and alcoholism can be causes. I forget what else are possible causes.

What have the doctors suggested you do for this? I haven't seen my friend who suffered from it for a long time now and kind of not up on current treatments.

Hopefully, they are better than in the past

Go right ahead and vent, sometimes that's all I need. I'm sorry you're having health issues. Please feel better.

My sister has Raynauds. It's also an autoimmune disorder. I've not seen anything about it being related to any kind of bariatric surgery. Here's a good link if you want more information.

I hope this helps.

Art,

I see you're a doctor yourself, so there's probably not a lot we can add to what you already know.

But support, we are good at. I'm still pre-op and down in Kingston, but I dread the cold-feeling (not even Raynaud's) so many get after surgery. Luckily, my gallbladder is already gone.

I hope these are the last of your troubles and that your are able to enjoy the beauty of that landscape around you with NO MORE complications.

Stay warm if you can, fellah. And if you pick up any tips on doing that for the rest of us, please share. I'm already cold-natured, even pre-op at close to 300 pounds!

I did not have Raynouds before and I believe I was H pylori neg. I can personally attest to a coworker who also developed Raynauds after surgery. I have heard of others but I have not done a formal study so I would appreciate hearing from others who may have developed it post op. I do have Rheumatoid Arthritis, another collagen vascular disease, but agiain no symptoms prior to surgery. I did an informal search online and saw that others were complaining of it as I recall. Still a little wacked from the surgery. I think that the gallbladder sugery and the internal hernia repair with 3 hours anesthesia done on an outpatient basis knocked me for a loop. At least more than I expected prior to surgery. I was very hypotensive after the surgery and was sent home turning green in the wheelchair. Oh well aint modern medicine a hoot.

I wish everyone well who has gone on this journey. I Soreally appreciate the support and kindnes expressed in your responses. I made this decision to have the initial surgery to save my life. So no matter what I go through I will press on but having people like you who intimately know the ins and outs, a little bit of a pun, of these wt loss procedures means a lot to me. Thanks Art

Hang in there, Art. It can be a tough ride but there are valid reasons for doing it. Good luck learning what you need to deal with the Reynaud's.

Default sleeve

I work for a VA and I am the clinical coordinator for bariatric surgery referral for veterans needing a procedure. The Va facility we refer to does only sleeves. I personally have the most experience with the roux n y. What has your experience been lkke with the sleeve compared to other wt loss procedures? Thanks Art
