5 months post op and so torn...
Hello everyone I joined this because I feel so alone lately. All of my "friends" that did gastric bypass have left me in the dark when they told me they would be here for me emotionally. It feels as if they FORGOT what they went through in the beginning.
My beginning weight was 349 and now 5 months later I am at 254...I have been losing 10 pounds a month for the past few months and people are telling me that i should be losing more. I feel as if I should be losing more. I want to go down to 150-160 and see these next hundred pounds as such a struggle.
Will this process speed up? How did it go for you guys? Can anyone relate to me or go through what i'm going through? I have been so sad and confused and am scared to stay overweight.
thank you and i am so excited to be on this forum from now on! I just found it on google search!

Don't listen to what "other people" say you should be losing. It's such an individual journey, no two journey's are alike!
When was the last time that you lost 50 lbs or 10 lbs consistently for months? How are you feeling? And you have to remember that your pouch is only a tool to help you help yourself. Are you exercising to increase your weight loss? There are so many variables to losing weight post-op...but follow your surgeons guidelines for protein, fluids, and exercise..and you will lose more weight...PROMISE!

Girl trust me, you've lost nearly 100 lbs in 5 months. Most people strive their best to do that in 6 months. You're ahead of the curve. Embrace it, love yourself, workout hard, eat your protein, take your vitamins, and drink lots of water and you will make it to the finish line. It's not a race tho, it's a journey. You can and are doing this. You just gotta believe in yourself! =)

I agree with everyone here...90 lbs in 5 months is spectacular. Also, the slower your weight loss, the more "permanent" it is.
When you first start out on your weight loss journey, the weight will fly off of you and now that it is slowing down, 10 lbs a month is PERFECT for your health and well being.
Don't let others dictate what you should or should NOT be doing. You should be very proud of your accomplishments-see your results like this: that's 90 lbs you'll NEVER see again.

You've lost almost 100 lb in 5 months - that is GREAT!!
I can definitely relate to being afraid that you will not loose as much as you want and despite the surgery will remain overweight. Trust me, you are doing fine! Just stick with the plan, do your exercise, eat your protein, drink a lot of water and you will continue to loose.
I would fear more of loosing weight too quickly - that is when people can't stop loosing and they have to have a reverse of the surgery.
Many of us still able to loose weight 1.5, 2, 3 years post op.
Good luck!

Honey, in five months, you have lost 95 pounds! That is almost 20 pounds a month, not ten. That is fantastic. No, the process will not speed up. You are already losing very, very fast. Actually, it will slow down soon, probably. That's how it is supposed to work. You lose faster in the beginning, then it slows down.
I can relate, I think we can all relate. Everyone wants the weight to just drop off instantly. But it doesn't really work like that. You are doing just fine.

Honey, I most certainly can relate. I started out at 359 pounds and my goal was 150 pounds. I lost 100 pounds in 5-6 months, so you are losing pretty much at the rate that I was and I can tell you that is NOT a slow weight loss!! I lost another 70 pounds over the next 7 months and then my weight loss slowed way down. It was frustrating unitl I started to focus more on the success I had instead of how far I had to go. It helped SO much. I was focused in on my wow moments and moments of celebration. At that point that goal weight wasn't quite as important any more. I was just thrilled to be alive and to be able to live life.
I lost about another 25 pounds that 2nd year and hit my goal weight of 150 pounds at 2 years, 4 months postop. Since that point I have maintained my weight between 150-155 pounds. I'm happy with that.
Try working on your mindset. I suggest to a lot of people to take this time to list all the many wow moments you are experiencing. When you find yourself feeling frustrated take out that list and read it to yourself. Celebrate and be proud of ALL the success you have had a long this journey. I'm sure at almost 100 pounds gone you would have quite the list. I also suggest that you right out on a card why you made the decision to have weight loss surgery. What are those goals, those things that you want to be able to do? Not just the number on the scale but what are the things you want to be able to do? Read that card a couple times a day. Remind yourself why you made the decision of weight loss surgery. Also carry that card with you and pull it out every time you are struggling.
This journey is a daily process. It isn't an easy one. When you have 200 pounds to lose you more than likely won't reach that goal in a year but that doesn't mean you never will. This isn't a race. This is a journey to living your life as a healthy person. It takes hard work but aren't you worth all that hard work?
