Default Last Supper Syndrome...

Is it an indicator of a poor outcome?

Did you have it? If so, how are you doing post-op?

What are your thoughts?

I keep thinking of pancakes, spaghetti, you name it all of the things I want before I cross over...

In some ways I see this as being reborn, in others I see it as a death.

Thanks.

VERY normal. But, remember you are not forever getting rid of these things. You can have them again later down the line just not as much. After surgery things change so much so fast you can hardly keep up.

Missing food? Nope, I'm not. As a matter of fact if I didn't have to eat I wouldn't now. The interest is just not there anymore. Of course what sits well at 9am today may not sit well at 10am today. It's all such a bother anymore and I get so flippin bored with chew, chew, chewing. But, it's all worth it.

I didn't bother with a final feeding frenzy to be honest, I only found out about them here post op I did eat some foods in January that I knew I would never eat again but to be honest for some reason I never enjoyed them.

I had been trying for several months since the previous October (08) to loose weight, to give myself a greater chance of surviving the surgery, and then just slipped into the two week pre op diet.

Nearly eight months Post op I still struggle with cravings for foods that I used to eat that are bad choices. I am dealing with it as best I can on a daily basis. I find the support here is great as I tell myself that failure would not only be letting me down, but also the friends I've made here.

Good luck.

I think it's quite common, and I don't think it necessarily means you won't be successful with the surgery. But it's also quite unnecessary.

You will be able to eat pancakes and spaghetti again, after surgery. You shouldn't eat them too often because they are high in carbs, but you can enjoy them on occasion. You'll probably need to use a low carb, low sugar syrup on the pancakes, and there are some very goods ones out there. You should use whole wheat spaghetti. Or, you could use spaghetti squash instead of pasta. But you can enjoy those things again.

And ask Kel to tell you about her last supper when she was supposed to be on the pre-op liquid diet and how her liver cracked in half during her surgery. It's really not worth it.

Kelly

I had it. I bought a ton of stuff to eat the week before surgery. I guess one of my surgeons knew me too well. He called and asked if I was eating junk and I should cut it out (even though I didn't have to do the liquid only till 2 days prior to surgery). It was funny in its own way.

As it happened, I'd started to get nervous, anxious & excited at that point anyway so I didn't eat all the junk I bought that last week (I did eat some, though).

I did go thru it. I went to O'Charleys for my favorite cheesy potato soup and salad the day before I started my pre-op diet. Post-op I am having trouble sticking with the 8 wk pureed diet. I have cheated many times. The thought of pureed food just makes me sick. I just make sure I chew my food very well.

I don't think "last supper" is an indictor of poor outcome.

We all ate for a reason. Loosing ability to overeat is not easy. We all are working on the ways to replace it with something healthy.

I am 17 months out and some times I still want to eat out of stress. Some times I DO eat under stress. I just don't eat as much and as often. I do have control over it.

Once you loose weight you are much more motivated, you just don' want to go back.

Nothing taste as good as THIN!

I had the largest hot fudge sundae I could find, with extra hot fudge.....hmmm, hmmm...still miss it...now, can only tolerate 1/2 scoop of ice cream with a drizzle of fudge. Luckily, it's not a craving anymore. I use to eat a large sundae 2-3 times a week.

I had a hard time with letting go of McDonald's and had myself the biggest meal I could find three days before surgery. Now, I can't even begin to tell you why I HAD to have it! I don't miss it a bit.
