Ugh, Mcdonalds. I hadn't eaten anything today and by the time I got home from my dr's appt. in Chicago I was so hungry. I got a 10 chicken nugget meal w/a diet coke. I figured I hadn't had it in forever, and that I would "treat" myself. Well, it didn't sit well with me, and it just wasn't....*good*. Maybe because I haven't had fast food in so long, I dunno. But won't do that again! I definitely won't miss it either post-op. well...maybe the fruit parfaits I will, cause those are yummy!

Nuggets never did it for me, either. Burgers and fries gave me mouthgasms, though!*lol* Now just the smell of the place makes me want to run the other way! *blech*

Okay.. so I'm sure many are sick of my 'cracked liver' story but honestly.. just don't cheat on the pre-op if your doc has you on one.. They know better than we do if our bodies might need to have one.. and it's for many reasons. One is to shrink your liver and make the surgery safer.. and one is to help you get into the mindset necessary to succeed.

I didn't follow my pre-op diet the way I should have.. I was worried about never having my favorites ever again.. so the Sunday before my Tuesday surgery, I gorged myself on bacon- a LOT of it.. and eggs, and hash browns and english muffins.. Umm.. but bacon, bacon, bacon.. I adore the stuff. Anyway- the high fat and carbs of my last supper inflamed my liver and part way through my surgery my liver cracked.. and caused significant bleeding and made my entire surgery more difficult and much longer than average.. I was under anesthetic for a total of 6 hours instead of the usual 2 -3 hours..

My doctor doesn't believe there will be any long term effects from this but only time will tell.

It was not worth what I risked for my "last supper" that's for sure.

Thanks to ALL who replied SO much!

I've been doing real well on weight loss this far--have lost 23 pounds this past month. So I guess I'm just really itching to get something in beforehand.

I'll make sure that it isn't a few days before surgery! Ack how awful! Am so sorry that happened to you!

I feel a lot better knowing so many others had this issue and seem to be doing quite well.

Thanks again folks!

Kimberley

Hon.. you're doing FANTASTIC so far! Keep it up..

(and you know what? Every Sunday I have 1 egg, 2 strips of bacon and either a piece of toast or 1/2 English muffin. So.. my 'last supper' was so *pointless*!)

See, I thought any and all bread products including pancakes OR toast of ANY kind would be forever banned.

So relieved... thank you, thank you.

Bread products should be a very small part of your post-op life.. and so I try to avoid it except for our sunday breakfast.. honestly. I "could" eat buttered toast all day long.

Nah, you can have bread. Different surgeons tell you different amounts of time to wait before you eat it. Some people are told to wait a few months before trying it. And some people don't eat it, or eat it very, very seldom, because they want to avoid the carbs. And some people don't like the way it feels in the pouch. But if it feels OK to you, you can eat it on occasion.
