Default Going back to school

I've been away from school since I had my surgery -- two weeks now. I intended on trying to go back after just one week, but that wasn't happening. I couldn't comfortably drive until yesterday.

I'm so behind now and I have to oomph to go DO my homework. I just feel hopelessly buried in it, and I'm only making it worse. I just can't concentrate yet. But if I don't go back Monday, and if I don't turn in at least half of the work I've missed, I'm going to be in a load of drop situations, which I think makes my financial aid rough for a few years. (Although I remember reading something about medical reasons typically being excused, but I'm not sure just a couple weeks would cut it?)

I shouldn't have taken all six classes (18 credit hours). But if I think about which classes to drop to make the work load easier, it's not easy to figure that out -- they all seem like relatively light classes except for Intro to Education, which I can't drop because I've got my in-a-real-classroom, hands-on-experience in motion already. And my history class is over in two weeks, which is what gives me the most homework, and it's an online class.

Meanwhile, during my break from school, I've been assigned to small groups that I haven't met yet in a couple of my classes. I'm totally worried about what they're thinking about the fact that I've been gone for two weeks. I'm afraid to go back and face that.

I'm going to try going to the library and see if I can concentrate there with less distractions, and leave my laptop at home and use the school's computers.

School.... fond memories.

All I can say is... get off the forum and start your homework, of course in the nicest tone. ;-)

School wasn't suppose to be easy, invest the time. Don't forget to have fun too. If you don't have any "buddies" to share notes with, make some smart friends. That helped me when I took 24 semester hours per term while working 32 hours a week. Boy that was a long time ago!

If you do have to drop some classes, it won't necessarily mess up your financial aid. Well, unless the rules have changed since I was in school, but that wasn't that long ago. You have to be at least a half-time student in order to get any financial aid, I believe. But it sounds like you're taking a full course load now. So you could drop some and be fine. I had some health problems at one point halfway through the semester and had to drop all my classes and retake them the next semester. It didn't hurt my financial aid at all. I got a partial refund for the classes I dropped. Not a full refund, because it was too far into the semester for that. But I got a partial refund.

But maybe you don't have to drop anything. Studying at the library may be a good idea. And I don't think the people in your small groups will think anything negative about you being out for a couple weeks. People have medical issues, you know? It happens.

Kelly

That's why I LOVE my online classes. I did all my work and turned it in before my surgery and picked back up the very next Monday (four days after my surgery). It's so worth it to keep going!!

I agree with what Kelly said - you should have the ability to drop some courses without risking your Fin Aid.

You don't have all of your classes on the same day, so start on your Monday classes homework today and work your ass off. You're not screwed yet, my dear. You can get some of your work done.

My first priority is my online history -- which is a week behind. He doesn't accept late assignments, but I was able to turn in last week's assignments on Monday. So hopefully, he'll accept this week's work for half credit. I really, really tried to get ahead on it -- but it's SO much work since it's a condensed course, it was leaving me little time for my son and my other homework.

Hopefully, I can get caught up on that today. I just can't work at home and my husband has been "too busy" playing on the computer to watch our son while I am out of the house. So I'm waiting for him to finish being an ass, and I just finished building an awesome train track with my son.

You're all right, though. If I have to, I can drop something. I'm just paranoid and I hope somehow this doesn't make me feel like a failure. I really need to just DO it and get it done with and then I can feel like an overachiever having done this and kept up with school. I just really want to finish my associate's in the spring, and not have to take another semester -- especially since the application fee for ASU will double from $25 to $50 if I wait! I'm cheap!
