Torture!!!
So, my post-lapband sister had a great idea to celebrate my parents birthdays which are right next to each other by having a dinner night where all four of us kids make a german dish and we have a german dinner! Sounds great except that it is this saturday and I am only on day three of my phase one liquid diet -which means no matter what I can't eat any of it!!!!! She suggested I make a soup so I can have some- I don't know what diet she was put on 5 days post op but mine does not include soup. And its even more tempting because the day after the party I can start eating "cream soups". For the party I am making a thick, CREAMY, delish, German potato soup! I had to go on line today to find the recipe I will use! Torture, looking at all the pictures as I sip on liquids all freakin day! OMG!! By the way when is hell week? Is this it? Please don't tell me I still have that to look forward to!
Are you positive it's not okay to eat a little bit of that soup on saturday??? What if I water it down? ~stomach growling~ I mean I can't even taste test my own creation! WTF!

You are in hell week right now. My Dr. told me as part of my liquid diet that I could eat cream soups. You shouldnt eat anything chunky, at all yet, but the cream in the soup should be fine. Some people will dump on the fat of a high calorie cream soup and some people are lactose intolerant after WLS so you may have some issues, but you never know until you try. I was eating cream soups and grits at 4 or 5 days out. I never had a problem. I would ask my NUT if I are worried about it. Good Luck to you!

Honey, this is hell week. Apparently it's not too hellish for you, huh? Good for you.
I was sent home from the hospital on full liquids, which included cream soups. I'm not tellin' you to ignore your doctor's instructions. But I doubt a couple bites would hurt you. If it's creamy. But did you have RNY or lap band? 'Cause some people do dump on fatty stuff. I dumped once on potato soup.

If you're making a cream soup, make sure you make it with skim milk. You can also substitute real cream with fat free half and half or skim evaporated milk. Real cream will make you dump. Also, you should be able to have any kind of soup if you strain it. A pain, I know, but you will be able to eat real food soon. Be patient. It's worth every bit of torture you have to go through. I had my surgery 6 weeks before Christmas last year and I survived the holiday season, no problem.

Though the advice for substituting lower fat cream or half and half is a wise one, I believe Hihi is a bander so she won't dump.
And yep.. in a few weeks, things will seem less difficult, hihi.. Vicki is 100% correct there.. it'll get easier and easier as time goes on.

Ah, I didn't realize she was a bander. But the no-fat is still a better option, health-wise anyway--for everyone. My daughter cooked dinner the other night. She made a chicken florentine and used heavy cream in it. She asked me why I wouldn't eat it, and I told her that it was chubby food. She served fettucine alfredo with it, ugh. I told her that she could use the lower fat options without compromising flavor. Sigh, maybe someday she'll listen to me. I don't want her to get into these bad habits. She likes to cook, but I don't like the high calorie foods she makes.

Yep.. I complete agree.. I find I can substitute lower fat without a huge compromise in flavor at all.

Ahh thanks guys! Yep i'm a laper and so it's likely I wont dump but the fact there is a possibility scares the crap outta me- actually I think that's the one reason I will be able to let this band work for me-I am scared of all of that stuff! I am going to the grocery store today- I took my fiance to work this morning -we only have one car right now- that way I can go to the store and buy the stuff for the soup and buy some protein drinks to start on today-I mean the only protein im getting is in the broth so I think I need some protein. It was funny yesterday- Allen-my fiance came home and by that time I was really sick and tired of jello and being hungry- he came home and ate a jello on purpose and it made me giggle- he was like what? I just shook my head- then he finished it off with a candybar! Don't worry he doesn't always eat like that- but bless his heart-when we have children they better have his metabolism gosh darnit! We have the opposite problem-he has a tough time maintaining his weight and needs to gain like 20 pounds. And I have too much hair and he is going bald-I tell him one day we will be able to have a tube attached from my tummy to his and my hair to his and just even the heck out!

Yeah, and I've noticed that her butt is now officially bigger than mine! LOL I keep telling her to eat healthy, but she is stubborn as a mule. Someday she'll pay the price.
