It's really none of their business!
I decided that it is no one's business what I do with my body or my life, unless I CHOOSE for it to be their business. Thus, about 6 very close friends/family members know about my surgery, and have been sworn to secrecy or risk their lives.
I have yet to have anyone say anything about my weight loss, but I know in time it will happen. And at that time, I will decide whether they are worthy of the truth or simply need to be told "diet and exercise"....
This is my body, my life, my experience and my choice. And it was my 17k that paid for it, not theirs. I'm happy with my choice, my body, and my life (not so much with the new debt... but hey) and they can either be happy for me, with me or not be a part of my life. I've learned the hard way, at a very young age, that if you are bringing me down in any way- you deserve no part in my life. Adios to those! Hello to skinnier and happier! with better friends!

Oh I sooo agree with you! I am 7 months out & I still get the "you were beautiful before & weren't even all that big" ... I was almost 300 lbs standing 5'5"!!! They always know someone who had complications with WLS, ALWAYS! Post-op it was worse, but we did what is best for us & that is all that matters. **hugs**

I really didn't face that too much. The one person that downed the surgery and kept reminding me of how hard it would be afterwards was my mother. I got to the point where I didn't even want to call her anymore. However, she came down from Ohio to be with me during my surgery. Once she got here I gave her the book that I received from my doctor and told her to read it. She didn't really have much to say afterwards.

hollycerniglia,
My mother is the same way..she even told me if she was rich she wouldn't pay for the surgery..she said that she would get me a personal trainer..I told her that she don't no how it feels to be over weight. To have her knees, backs, hips, and ankles hurt..she don't know how it feel to not be able to walk up some stairs an become out of air. That's why at this point I don't even talk to her about it any more.If she bring it up I change the subject or tell her I will call her back..She don't care enough to even go to a seminar with me to get more info..
So at the end of the day we have to do what's best for us...Also there are people that don't like to see anyone else happy..

I agree with all of you!!! Some are happy for me some have to get on their soap box and preach!!! I don't care what they say I'm doing it anyway, but I just wish they keep the negative attitude to themselves!!!
Whatever happened to "oh ok if that's what you wanna do" and keep it moving!?? Well maybe that's just what I say if people are doing things I don't agree with, it's not my life and their free to do what they want!!! People are gonna do what they want no matter what others say and when the nay sayers see this, they'll be better off!!!

i had this from my mom pre-op..i printed out a bunch of info and had her read it, then gave her the WLS for dummies book. I have to say she did change her mind and supported me throughout the surgery. She still does now but we now butt heads over food. She always tells me about a friends, sister in law, next door neighbor, post deliver person that after a month out was eating a slice of pizza, or who eats pasta at 2 months out or so and so has chips/salsa whats the problem. She thinks I am too strict on my food because I make it all about protein. I always say well have you seen them lately?? I am sure they didnt keep it off!! Bad side is that unless i show her someone who had WLS and ate that crap early out/ever and show her they gained the weight back she doesnt believe it. So if anyone knows a person like that send them my way, my mom needs to meet them!

I agree with you forget the haters...It's sad to say that among the haters that my own mother is one of them..My husband and a good friend of mine told me that i don't need her support because I have them. But in my mind I would love to have her support. I know I can't force her to support me so we have not been talking as much since the process began..

Girl, I wish I had the confidence you have!!!! Shoot some over here would ya?
you sound plenty like you aren't going to let anyone walk and talk over you, so don't. You are doing this FOR YOU. To be healthy, to be around for your family.
My parents are the only ones I told. They both disagree with it. My mom is a bit more supportive, but my dad thinks it's only for huge fat people that can hardly move and I just need to get off my a$$ and get exercising and eat better. It's not so easy done than it is to say as you know. My BP is so high I could die tonight in my sleep. I want my kids to have a mom and a grandmom for their kids.
do what you have to do girl
hugs
T
