Talking don't know what to say at psych dr.

Afternoon, my fellow people.

This is my first time on this website and on this forum. I have been to the
seminars and i've taken many notes. I've taken my blood work, found stomach virus - took my medicine all done, have gotten all my medical record from what i can get my hands on . some doctors do not hold records for 5 years, so i'm screwed there. but i heard they have there ways in the dr.'s office.

Now today is the big day , I see the LOONEY doctor, kind of nervous, ok I'm going out of my mind, not sure what to say or what to do or what to do anything.
(this is where everyone you guys come in).
I have no idea what to do so if anyone can help me prepare for this.
i have it at 4:00 today so i have 2 hrs and 30 mins to get ready.

I will everyone later tonight how it went.

thanks

Well first off Welcome .. and secondly .. don't be nervous and just be honest with them. If you don't understand something ask .. and if you aren't sure how to answer something say so ... they will ask you in a different way so you know what you are saying.

I was a little stressed about mine too. I was sure they were going to label me crazy and I wouldn't be able to get the surgery.

But the Doc was very nice and just wanted to make sure I understood what the surgery was about and that I didn't have false perceptions.

Good luck

Psychiatrist are actually pretty easy to talk to. It's kind of what they do
Of all of the pre-op crap that I had to do, I thought the psych evaluation was one of the easiest. There really is no reason to stress over it.

You'll be fine

Ok, so what you don't want (in all honesty) is to come in here post op (I'm to assume you are having RNY) and start asking things relative to someone who did not get attention regarding the fixation on food in their mind.

That being said, all that can possibly happen in the event that a question is answered "incorrectly" is the very attention that one would require anyway. It's that simple.

Welcome to Thinner Times.

You are in good hands here. There are many far more qualified to answer this, but, I have seen the harm in the folks that didn't go through this part of the process with honesty and are paying for it now.

Just be yourself and answer the questions honestly. The momentum is still forward regardless the outcome.

Smile Relax, it's not a big deal

As I said in another Psych Eval thread a little bit ago (wow, big day for those!), they're not trying to make you nervous!

Some of what I said previously:

Prior mental health treatment is *not* a disqualification for WLS, either. What they are trying to determine is if you understand what you're doing, you can handle the responsibilities and emotional stress of living with the choice, and that you are not so self-destructive that you will do something like binge eat afterward and cause yourself medical problems.

Trying so hard to get back on track, face that I can't do it alone, stop beating myself up for my failings... UPDATE: Well, after the 7 lb. drop last week, this week I didn't lose *anything*. Didn't gain, but it's discouraging.

thanks for the help it went very well and was out in under and hour.

I'm not crazy , there was not looney truck outside waiting for me.
i got the thumbs up and ready for anything. was very simple just asked about my background, family life-my hobbies and if my family was supportive.

no the most impartant part i have to wait for the report to go to the doctors office and the waiting begins for the approval.. i guess i did all that was requested so far.
I will wait a week and call the dr's office and see what else do they need.

thank you all again.

That's great to hear, Tiny! Stick around here, especially in Pre-Op, and ask about anything you need. And keep us up to date on how you're progressing!
