Default An emotional wreck 5 days out help!!!!

My left side hurts soo bad today it feels like a stabbing pain and I can't stand up straight! My temp and pulse is fine but I have used almost an entire bottle of the lortab. To make matters worse I have been in pain on the toilet from constant diarreah (sorry tmi) since 9 this morning. My buddy is no where to be found she never came back to my house last night and of course I cant get ahold of anyone to get me more pain meds....please words of encouragement or tricks i can do to make this pain in my side go away! I have been crying all morning and cant stop!

Everyone always posts how they came home from the hospital feeling wonderful and yadda yadda yadda. I felt like a freaking stabbing victim for 6 weeks. Keep taking the lortab and don't run out. There are no awards at the end of this for those that did it without pain meds.

Were you feeling better yesterday and then got worse or have you been feeling this way the whole time? If it is the first one, call your doctor! It is supposed to get better, not worse.

No this pain has been here since we pulled the on q pump out and actually even why it was in to be honest just not as bad. I guess it has to be muscle pain cause the incisions all look really good. Under all of my fat I do have some muscle from riding horses all of my life so I guess that could be it just muscle pain????

I am 10 days post surgery and can tell you it does get better. The diarrhea (no such thing as too much information here) could be from the antibiotics that you get when you have surgery. I had it for about a week or so. Make sure you are taking in at least a liter of fluids or more a day so you don't get dehydrated. My pain was hit and miss. I have it when I lay down at night because I am a stomach sleeper. You can also take Liquid Tylenol to help. Notify your doctor if it persists.
Good luck,

Chris

I had the worst diarrhea the first couple of days at home! Couldn't always get to the bathroom on time diarrhea. It was terrible. However, my doctor said it was normal. And it did go away in a couple of days.

As far as the pain, if your pain medication isn't helping and it's that bad, you might want to call your doctor. You might need to be seen in the office, or you might need a different medication.

Thanks everyone- I think I just completely broke down.. I need to take my medicine more often and not try to "bear" it. It seems like it is muscle pain for sure I have been icing it and it feels a bit better. I definately had my freak out "what did I do to my self" day today. I hope the diarreah goes away soon! Thanks for your help!

Diarrhea: I get it everytime I have surgery....usually do to the antibiotics they give you in your IV prior to most any surgery. Stay away from milk at this time too...just a suggestion.

Pain in the side: This is more than likely due to the surgery site where they enter the camera through the muscle (left hand side; lower area). Everyone's pain tolerance is different, if you can't manage the pain call your surgeons office for their suggestions.

And remember your hormones, emotions all going haywire at this time and you may be feeling overwhelmed at the beginning of your "new life style". It's normal...things do get better!

It is normal to feel like you are getting much better a few days out and then have what seems like a setback after major surgery. You don't just start out of the gate and pick up speed in this race. You sometimes have to slow back down for a bit and take a break. It happens to alot of people. It happened to me. I felt like I could have ran a race 3 or 4 days out then BAMMMM I was down for the count again. It only lasted a few days and then I was back up and running. I'm sure you will be too. I had to take pain meds for a week or so after my surgery, so that is not out of the norm either. So, contact your doctor and try to get someone to go get them for you. Some people do great and don't even take the meds after coming home. Wish I could have been one of those, but I didn't do so hot. Just take one day at a time and you will get better. You'll get through this.

As for the diarrhea......I had it for a few months afterward. If I was in a store and it hit me, I had better start running! I knew where a bathroom was at all times. It never gave me much of a notice and it was horrible to try to hold til I got to the bathroom. I even had several times where I would vomit in the trash beside the toilet when I had a bowel movement because it made me so nauseated. It was bad for a while, but now I only do that maybe once every two or three months. I still have not figured out why it makes me nauseated. But I always have diarrhea when it makes me vomit. Weird, huh? Car rides were horrible for me too. Every time the car would start moving, I would get incredible bowel cramps and get nauseous and have the urge to use the bathroom. I couldn't go anywhere.....I'd have to stop every few miles to get sick. I cried about it a lot because I never thought I would be normal again, but now it does not bother me at all. I think it was the motion of the car, sorta like sea sickness that caused it. But I really don't know. Just happy it's gone now.
