Default Happy but Scared

Was so pleased ... passed the psyciatrist tests today.. we live in belguim so it needs the surgeon and the psyciatrist to give the go ahead... we had the surgeons approval 3 weeks ago and today the physciatrist..

I was so happy i almost skipped out of the office (knowing the 2 people prior to myself had been turned down).... and i was so excited i couldnt wait to get home to tell my partner and little girl....

Then on the short walk home i began to have second thoughts ..... scared that i cant do this...... scared something will go wrong... and if im truthfull scared of having to give up eating normal forever....

Do you think this is natural feelings.... did anyone else have second thoughts before surgery..

I felt EVERYTHING you are feeling now prior to my surgery! I even told my surgeon how scared I was and he said, "That's completely normal. I would be more concerned about you if you weren't a little scared!" He reassured me and told me not to worry--that I can be scared, but not worried. He said being worried was his job and he wasn't so there was nothing to worry about (I just love my surgeon, lol)!

WLS is definitely not "the easy way" to go. It IS tough, but it is so worth it! Yes, eating habits have to change, and that has been difficult for me, but you learn and adjust. I went through a phase for a couple weeks before surgery where I wanted to eat everything because "I won't be able to have this again." Now I keep telling myself that I CAN have it again--maybe not today, but at some point I WILL be able to have it again.

Best of luck to you!

Im feeling exactly everything thAt you are feeling, and i too am scared...but as far as eating everything in site...i would becareful and not indulge in alot of fattening foods before surgery..the reason i say that is because here in california they ask us to lose 10% of our weight so that we can reduce the amount of fat on our liver..which makes the procedure safer...and you certainly do not want to add more fat to ur liver prior to surgery...

just my .02..

I think just about EVERYONE has second thoughts before surgery. It is scary to think that you'll have to change the way you eat FOREVER. You can do it, though. If I can do it, anyone can do it. Go easy on the "last suppers," though. Many of your favorite foods you will still be able to eat again, just in smaller portions. And as someone else said, you don't want to increase the fat around your liver right before surgery.
