Default Pre-Surgery Liquid Diet

I am on a liquid diet, it consists of 4 shakes a day, that are disgusting, i am switching to nectar syntax soon, anyway 4 shakes, 1 healthy choice entre at dinner, and about 3 types of veggies, that i am pretty sick of, i've been on it for 8 weeks and i didnt meet my goal weight and cannot see my dr till the end of august, so i have to be on it for another 8+ weeks, i feel like i am going nuts on it. It's so little food, i mean i know i have to get used to small amounts of food and that is good, anyway, any suggestions? thank you,,, lisa

Wow, that is a long time to be on the pre-op diet! Most people only have to do it for a week or two. I know there is at least one other member here who is currently doing it for a couple of months- maybe she will see this post and respond.

It's not a lot of food, and it has to be hard. Yes, you do need to get used to eating smaller portions, but after your surgery, the smaller portions will be much, much easier. Your pouch won't let you eat bigger portions. If you can find some protein shakes you like, that should help a little. Do you have to use a certain type, or will any protein drink do? You can check out this blog for some great shake recipes: theworldaccordingtoeggface.

Keep coming here for support, and try to stay focused on your goal, the surgery.

Kelly

I get my protein shakes from a place called Physicians Weight Loss Center. The website is Physicians WEIGHT LOSS Centers: Diet and weight loss programs and products for healthy dieting. Franchise opportunities. They are very good-not chalky or gritty. They also have Sloppy Joe mix that is good with Melba toast.

You can buy samples of lots of different shakes at vitalady.com. That way you can try them out before you invest in a big tub.

You know, it's a learning process. Better to slip up now when it's relatively easy to correct it, than after your surgery when slipping up might have more detrimental effects.

Are you doing Medifast?

I did that for 2 months pior to my surgery. I didn't think they were bad at all except for the orange flavor . .that was bad.

I had 4 shakes a day and a "lean and green" for dinner. I could have 4 gto 5 oz of any lean meat and 3 cups of veggies.

I was determined to do this and did just that.

No shakes are as yummy as say a chocolate milk shake but it's mind over matter. How bad do you want this? As far as I am concerned no shakes out there taste too terrific, so switching probably won't make a difference. But, you have to do what you have to do.

If you don't - you see what happens .. you didn't meet your goal and you have to do it again.

I'm not saying it was easy for me. There were days I would just breakdown and cry my eyes out convinced I couldn't do it for even one more day. I was so sick of shakes. But, I did get through that day and the day after that and so on. One day at a time.

It's all you can do. But, you have to try to keep as positive about it as you can. If you go into it feeling deprived and feeling sorry for yourself it's only going to make it harder to complete your mission.

I in no way am trying to criticize you ... just tell you what I went through. I lost 83 pounds on those shakes from the end of November to the middle of February when I had my surgery. If I can do it .. I am pretty confident you can too.

So good luck and keep your chin up ... and in the grand scheme of things this is only a very tiny time period .... you CAN do this!!

I have to do this POST OP. That really stinks! I am adding strawberries right now to my protein shakes (made in blender) because they are coming in now and are WONDERFUL!

I have had a lot of dental work and won't get teeth for two more months - so it's all liquids for me. I have lost more weight too. I am 1 year 1 month out from surgery, so at least I don't feel hungry. I just want to "taste" what I can smell when I cook dinner for everyone else.

I think generally i am doing pretty well except for this setback. I began the weight loss in January and i have lost 50 lbs, before the liquid diet, just by walking, i started by just going around the block and now i can go 3 miles and i am now down to 400lbs, which sounds crazy but it's been a success so far.

HMR shakes arent bad..you can also get sugar free syrup and add any flavor to the vanilla shakes or even chocolate for that matter. I used to get sugar free toffee nut, Irish cream and another thin I loved was sugar free jello pudding mix you can make a white chocolate vanilla shake that is awesome! You can even add instant coffee to it! It is tough yes but at least you get food! It could be just shakes!!! Also make sure you are burning at least 2000 calories a week. Eliptical burns twice as much calories as walking or treadmill FYI
Good luck!
