Is dumping for real?
I'm new to the website, and i'm one week, one day post-op. I'm hungry most of the time. And I dont think it's "head hunger" because I get phsically tired and my stomach kinda grumbles. My question is really about dumping. I got the gastric bypass instead of the lap band to have the dumping syndrome. But I've already tested the pouch and nothing. So I was wondering - what the hell?
Also I forgot to mention that unlike most people i've heard about, I am able to drink right before and after meals. Again - what the hell?

1. Head hungers is just that...you THINK you are hungry...but you're really not.
2. Dumping is real (for most people; not all). But what could you have "tested" this theory with at 1 week post-op?
3. I could eat and drink at the same time, but SHOULD I? Nope...

First of all, why would you "test" to see if you dump, especially so early out? Secondly, not everyone dumps.
It's not that we CAN'T drink right before or after meals, it's that we SHOULDN'T. Two different things.

My question too is "what the hell?"
Not to sound harsh or mean but why would you even already a week out be testing your pouch? This I can in no way wrap my brain around. Not sure what you are testing with but I think you are starting down a dangerous road early that will ultimately impede your success with your bypass.
Head hunger is just that. For the first month after my surgery my head, my stomach, my body screamed for food. Did I need it of course not but I sure did want it. You just gotta work through it the brain is a hard thing to retrain after surgery. Good luck with yours.
And with the drinking this is a rule for a reason, just because you can does not mean you should. If you are washing your food out by drinking then you may be hungry quicker and doing more harm then good.
I am eager to hear what kind of pre op education and guidelines your surgeon counseled you with if you are already fudging those boundries.
Good luck with your journey.
Sorry one more thing to add, dumping is very even though not everyone experiences it. I dumped on a food I was allowed to have banana. Enough said.

I wonder if these people come on here to mess with me.
Yes eat whatever you want, do whatever you want. Heck, order a pie. Scarf it down, but when you are in the ER... remember what your surgeon said.

OK - assuming the OP is for real - let's not turn this into a public flogging.
Angel.
You need to come back and start reading everything you can on this forum.
I don't know what pre-op courses you had (if any) but you need the help of these people.
They've walked the walk and although we can all be a little harsh at times, we all want to help you get with the programme so you can make your surgery a success.

Ok let me rethink what I said......
Like Corrine said, what pre-op classes did you have, what were you taught?
I was taught to NOT do all the things you did.. and it seems to me that you did know that you werent supposed to do it, just did anyways. Why would you test the waters?

flying angel - that grumbling might be the remnants of your old tummy. I've heard that can happen.
At one week out you are going to be tired because you just had surgery. It's not tired from being hungry. your body is healing.
I'm a bit unsure of the veracity of this post myself, because at one week out I didn't feel much like eating - well, I wanted to eat because I was stressed, but I wasn't feeling real hunger.
Try to relax a bit, just chill out. This is the time to teach yourself new habits. Like not testing your pouch...
