flying angel - I don't dump either. at least not so far. Like foxy fuzz said, it can happen later.
I had a cupcake for my birthday. I ate it slowly and with great relish. It was delicious. I was almost 6 months post-op, though.
The things you mentioned aren't typically things that make you dump, but they might make your pouch uncomfortable.
I was going crazy 1 - 2 weeks out. I was so sick of the protein crap they gave me (I've since found some stuff that I like) that the first time I had scrambled eggs they were like heaven. And I don't usually like eggs!!!
If you are having real issues with feeling like you want to eat (and not feeling like you can control it), you should probably go back to your doc and get a counselor to talk to. Food can be an addiction - and if something as drastic as surgery isn't helping you control those urges then you might find some benefit from talking to someone about it. Really. I once was able to stick to a strict Atkins diet for almost 2 years (and lost 100 lbs) in part because I was seeing a therapist regularly. It's really helpful in figuring out why you want to eat.
good luck.

Flying Angel....think of it this way. It's not what you CAN eat, it's what you SHOULD eat. Not all of us dump. I don't. For that reason, I have to be more disciplined in my food choices. So will you.
Sit down and rethink the reasons you had this surgery. The reason some people are getting upset with you is because you're sabotaging yourself. We've all been though this, and know how serious of a surgery it is and how life altering it can be. This surgery is simply a tool. It won't work by itself...you've got to work with it.
Something I'll point out....most of us can drink with meals without pain. But there is a logical reason NOT to do it. You'll stretch out the stoma (the small opening between your intestines and the new stomach). If you stretch that out, it can only be fixed by additional surgery.

First of all how were you tryin to be nice? Telling me to order a whole pie with your hopes of me in the ER? Yea, nice. Actually they did make all of us have a psych eval. with the Dr's decision being one that would or would not have let me have surgery. She thought I was a great candidate in fact. I didn't expect a pat on the back. But maybe if someone went through this they could shed a little light for me and give me suggestions of what to do, or how to get through this rough patch. The only reason I tested out the pouch is I believe hunger. The things I tested with weren't what I really wanted, but I tried to make a healthier choice. I feel like I dont have any energy. I have a 6month old daughter who is still collicy and teething and just drains every ounce of energy out of me. So I was just looking for a way to get my energy going again. Now I dont know what jersey talk is for "toots" but i'm sure its just another way to make you feel better about yourself. It's kinda sad for you that you have to put others down to elevate youself.

hey, it sounds like a reasonable misunderstanding.
as mentioned before, people typically only dump off of sugars and fats. when you said that you were testing your pouch in a thread about dumping 1-week post-op, personally, I immediately imagined you eating a candy bar or something.

You made an outlandish claim that seemed to come from someone who was either ill informed or just not listening. I lurked on these forums for a while before I ever considered actually posting, much less posting something so controvesial. I think you knew that coming in though.
If you want some constructive support, change the tone and reconsider your original post and what reaction(s) would result from it.
Have a nice day

Dump?

My question is really about dumping. I got the gastric bypass instead of the lap band to have the dumping syndrome. But I've already tested the pouch and nothing. So I was wondering - what the hell?
Also I forgot to mention that unlike most people i've heard about, I am able to drink right before and after meals. Again - what the hell?

Sorry if I've misunderstood but are you saying you chose the GB so that you could have the dumping syndrome? If so, why would you wish to dump? You sound almost disappointed that you didn't dump. Have I not understood you correctly?
Hyacinth.

I've never truly 'dumped' like some people, but I do experience ill effects from certain foods from time to time. My dumping is when my heart rate goes up, I feel stuffed full and sometimes (albeit rarely) I get nauseous.
I agree with the others that you shouldn't be drinking and eating at the same time, even though I've done it too. I was eating Christmas cookies 6 weeks out but can't stomach cookies at all now. It seems I was able to eat more and a bigger variety of foods when I was post-op than I can now.
Do what your doctor says, even if you don't want to. My heart goes out to you with the colicky baby. I had twins that screamed for 4 months, so I can relate. I used to run out of the house when hubs came home from work every day. Thought I was going to go insane. They're 20 now. Good luck.

I understand you are having a rough ttime with a 6 month old, maybe it wasnt the proper decision to put yourself through such a surgery, where you would have to work YOUR food intake and YOURself... Not saying that you should have never had it, but theres a time and place. You are going to get yourself so phyiscally ill if you dont start eating the right food..
#2, don't insult my sarcasm or nj, you are all only gonna make your point less validated and you are going to wake the bear.
#3 LISTEN to what is being told. You may not like it or want to hear it, but you came here... we didnt seek you out, listen to our advice and our reactions. You are doing something possibly extremely harmful to your body. Would you feed your 6month old the stuff you have been eating?

Only when they start whining. But one of them doesn't live with me anymore. He just shows up once a week to do his laundry.
I've mellowed a lot since then.
