Default Books on surgery and life after...?

Hi everyone! I am getting RNY Gastric Bypass surgery on July 9th, 2009 and I am very excited! I start my diet next Thursday and then the preparations really start. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for good books to read for life after surgery. I could definitely benefit for some tips before surgery, but I mostly want information/stories/tips for after I get home.

Thanks for the help!

A must have....WLS for Dummies. Do a search for books and you'll get the full listing.

Thanks for the reply, Shetaz0028! I've found a ton of books on Amazon.com, but I wanted to get the "skinny" on which books you all found helpful. I can read the reviews, but just figured I'd go right to the source of those who may/may not read/use them for life after surgery. I've heard good things about WLS for Dummies, and luckily my library carries it (the only one they DO carry, unfortunately) so I am able to read it before hand. Any other suggestions?

What about recipe books?

Opps sorry, I didn't mean to search the web for books but, search the forums here. WLS for Dummies is the bible so to say and I would suggest purchasing it and not checking it out. I live with mine. Even though I'm still batteling insurance I look to it for support.

Cook books: I don't have one for WLS but, there is a fantastic recipe section here that I have just been printing and making my own book with.

Okay, cool - thanks! I like that I can check WLS for Dummies out at the Library and see if it's a book I'd like to purchase, before I actually spend the money. If I like it, then I'm all about buying it. I like checking things out first and see if they'd be a good go-to for info/help/tips/support, et.

I will check on these forums for books and recipes - thanks again!

Along with "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies", I'd recommend "The Real Skinny on. Weight Loss Surgery" by Julie M. Janeway, Karen J. Sparks, Randal S. Baker, M.D., F.A.C.S..

You can pick a used copy up from Amazon: Amazon.com: Used and New: The Real Skinny on Weight Loss Surgery: An Indispensable Guide to What You Can Really Expect!

Default Amazon

Do some searches on Amazon for weight loss surgery books. Many will come up and at the bottom of each page there are reviews by many people. Not that I buy the book from Amazon (although some of their prices are pretty good) but by reading the reviews you can kind of get a sense how most people feel about the book itself.

I did buy the book "the Beck Diet solution - train your brain to think like a thin person" - author Judith S. Beck. It had some pretty good reviews but I can't say for sure myself because I'm only one quarter into the book. I think I'm resisting reading it when I know I need to. It's to try and get your head in the right mindset to lose the weight and keep it off.

honestly I wouldnt spend money on WLS books. I would read site like this and other sites like Obesity Help. Everything I needed to know I learned from sites like this and OB. The people on these boards share and answer questions I feel better than any book.

Just my humble opinion.

OOooooooo I forgot I had that one. I have one other that "Barriatric Eating" sent me I'll have to pull it out and find out the name of it. It's on the older side but, still some useful stuff in there.

Can't wait to "Build my own cat" ROFLAMO....that still just kills me.
