I know I went thru this before surgery. For me, I think it was a "last Hurrah", thinking I would be saying farewell to my "friend" food. But food isn't really a friend for me, but rather a snake in the grass weasel that either wants to choke the life out of me or make me sick and miserable! LOL
In any case, now that I am 4 months postop, I still deal with the food addiction in my head, but my body will not let me give in. Most of the time I do pretty good...sometimes I have weaknesses and give in, and sometimes I suffer for that and other times, I get by with it...so I have to get it made up in my head how to do this the right way, each time, while I have the tool to work in my favor.
I had bypass, but I think the head problem is always the biggest problem that requires the most work. The band is your tool to help you...it won't cure you.
I just came to the conclusion that I couldn't do it without drastic help...forever help...from gbs. It's working, and so am I. But, where I used to work and get nowhere before, I am now getting places. 60+ lbs in 4 mths.
My best friend had the band done a year & 1/2 ago...her loss is slower going, but if SHE can loose weight with it, anyone can! LOL...good thing she loves me! She lost over 50 lbs, and is still doing pretty well. She couldn't get that scale to budge before surgery!
I had lots of co-morbidity issues that she didn't. The biggy for me was diabetes...I don't even need to take any blood sugar meds, and haven't since about 3 weeks post op...so, like I said, it's working.
And I still can eat some of my faves...not all, thank God! And I eat them like a "skinny" person does. You know, one or two compared to the whole bag! That is miracle enuf for me!
Just keep researching, be patient with yourself, and look your doubts right in the eye and don't back down to them!
God bless!
Patty
