Default Screwing up royally, what do I do?

Its post op and its my second week I can eat puree on the 18th yet I have eaten solid food 3-4 times within the last week, i feel fine but I know its wrong. I cant help it if I dont eat solid food I will become violent, angry and depressed, But even before the surgery I had the same abnormally str0ong cravings for meat I reacted in the same way when deprived. I cant help it and I feel trapped. As for exercise I cant do too much because I have six herniated discs in my spine and Sciatica

Also I have incisions and they itch horribly I cant help scratching them and now the skin around the bandages is red, warm, and slightly swollen, should I be worried?

I don't think that if u dont eat solid food you will become violent, angry or depressed. I think you need to get a grip on it. If you read on this surgery, it isn't easy... the first few weeks are the toughest. You are mourning the loss of food, which you used as a clutch for so long.

I recommend following your surgeons food plan or search for others on here, because if you are eating solid food now, I cant imagine what you are going to be doing 1+ yr down the line.

Good luck.

I know what you are going through. However, I have not eaten solid foods. last week I did take a piece of meat off my hubby's plate and sucked on it. I spit it out but I still felt guilty. My diet from the surgeon is liquids for 4 weeks and then I can start eating mush. I have hit the depressed, wish I hadn't had the surgery and every other emotions I am sure you are facing.

I feel much better after I spoke with my NUT about this. She said I am experiencing head hunger. I know we think we have real hunger pains in our gut but it's not. She said if I can get through the 6-8 weeks of head hunger i will be very successful at this. That made me feel a lot better and gave me something to focus on - the finish line. After 8 weeks I can have baked fish/chicken, fresh fruit and veggies.
Now that I realize the little grumbles in my tummy are more likely gas related and not hunger I am able to cope.

Trust me when I say I have been right in your shoes. Depression and feeling deprieved sucks the life right out of you.

Take it one day at a time.

By the way, I am almost 2 weeks out myself.

Well Kell, I hate to contradict you....You are always getting contradicted - LOL
But, I am this time. The first week after surgery when i realized I couldn't eat "real" food I lost it. I wanted to die. I know that sounds extreme but it's the god awful truth. Depression is a monster. I think the poster was trying to confere their emotions from the loss of food. I guess I am one of the sorry few who have dealt with this.
Matter of fact, in my depressed angry state last Sunday i took my wall clock and threw it across the room - why? Because hubby was out with his family having lunch. I was too sick and couldn't eat to go anyway. Not proud of myself, I just want to let you know it's possible to be depressed and angry from the loss of food.

Yes, they need to get a grip on it because it will fester and get worse.
I am glad I was able to. I can't afford any more wall clocks

That's what i'm saying.. u can't lose it. It isnt healthy at all to get violent though. I think the violent point stood out to me in what he/she said.

It isn't easy, BY FAR. I still have days where nothing works and I get frustrated, but never violent or angry.

Your one of the lucky ones....Food is like a drug to some people. I think throwing the clock across the room would be considered violent.......

By the way, Happy belated Birthday! You are an OLD WOMAN

Your incisions could be infected. Call your surgeons office and let them know what is going on. You made need antibiotics.

I'm confused.

If you trained your body to eat when you want it to, why are you not following the surgeon's protocol by eating solids?

And as for eating 1-2 times a day - that's just not healthy.

This is a vital time in your process. You really need to follow your surgeon's instructions. You are laying down the foundation for a healthy future.

Straying from the programme at this stage is going to make it all the harder later on.
