post op but hardly losing...
My surgery was 4/29/09. I have only lost 21 lbs. I thought maybe I wasn't losing as much because I didn't have as far to go as some, but I'm beginning to think its more than that. I start my day w a protein shake-Isopure w slimfast low carb. Have a greek yogurt for lunch. Soft foods dinner time-a stuffed manicotti or tuna and beans salad or no pasta lasagna (cottage cheese, tomato sauce, mozzarella). Not doing sweets or chips/junk type food. Why arent I losing more? Did you all have your surgery then become fitness exercising mavens? I feel like I wasted my money (self paid surgery). Very discouraged.

What amount of no calorie/no caffinated fluid are you getting in a day? The manicotti.. is it made with pasta? How many carbs are you getting in a day?
You might just be one of the slower losers.
Note that I lost 100 lbs in the first six months, but did not lose anything between the 3rd and 8th week (five weeks!!!!!!) It was so hard and frustrating.
Here is my first (or second?) post to TT. Might help?
Frustrated and Depressed..
Don't get too worked up over it.. you'll get there!

It will come off
I started off slow, also. I checked the scales everyday. I would go for weeks and not lose anything, then overnight I would lose 4-5 lbs. Then the cycle woud start again. It is just your body getting use to less calories. It thinks its starving, will get use to less, then let go of the fat. The cycle continues. Stay positive, it DOES come off. I promise.

I have felt the same way so many times. Had stalls every few weeks that lasted several weeks and then start losing again. Seems like a lot of people here have felt at some point OMG what have I done the surgery didn't work for me. It works. Don't worry.

I don't know how much of the protein shakes you're getting.. are you anywhere near the *minimum* of 64 oz? If you're doing any sort of workouts, you'll need more than that, too.
other than that.. time is what you'll need to give yourself. I promise you're no where near done!

I would say to not base your weight loss off what you have read here. Everyone is different and your body may handle this entire journey differently. Dont be discouraged you will do fine.

I had so many stalls the first few months I don't even want to talk about it. You just had surgery, your body is adjusting. It's actually probably freaking out a little bit, but we'll call it "adjusting."
I can't tell you the number of times I thought "I am going to be the ONE PERSON that WLS doesn't work for." Go ahead. Try saying it out loud.
Did you laugh? Yeah, cuz it's ridiculous. Of course you're not the one person it's not going to work for. You have just had your little wrapper cut into and your tummy is drastically reduced. You're eating less - there is no way you're not going to lose weight.
Like I said, your body is just adjusting. Try not to freak out.
I have to tell myself not to freak out fairly regularly, actually. Cuz I like to I guess - maybe I'm really good at it?

Stalls HAPPENS to everyone!!!
Ardita - I have not had my surgery yet, but I can pass along what my nutritionist told me. This HAPPENS to almost everyone that have had the WLS.The dreadful stalls occurs because your body is not use to your body losing that amount of weight. First, give yourself credit for the tremendous strides you have made towards improving your health! You have done terrific in the last couple of monthds!
With any weight loss plan, it's normal and expected to experience plateaus from time to time. The good news is that your weight isn't increasing! To get back on the "losing" track, you may now need to adjust your caloric intake to your new weight. Speak with a dietician about how many calories you really need at this point. Keep a diet log in which you record all of your food and beverage intake as well as your daily exercise and bring this with you to review with the dietician.
Focus on portion size as well as food choices. Look for hidden calories. Drinking regular soda or fruit juices rather than water, for example, can really add up. You may also want to review your exercise regimen with your physician and see if you can crank it up a notch. Now that your physical health has improved significantly, you can probably exercise at a more vigorous level. This is important for you to burn more calories as well as to tone your muscles as you lose weight. I hope this helps Ardita and KEEP UP THE GREAT work!!!

I love you people....
You don't know how much it means to hear your stories and words of rational thinking.
ragazzarosa-you hit it on the head-I know I am "the one WLS did not work for".
misty/kel- I'm not drinking enough but my drinks are "legal"-no juices or caffeine or carbonation-mostly crystal light.
I'm gonna keep working at it but it is discouraging to read others huge weight losses while I'm crawling along. and ms ready, I am not exercising enough but I am also not taking in a lot of calories so it is perplexing. I'm afraid to eat more but maybe my body that thinks it is starving needs me to (and exercise more, I know)
