I feel really guilty actually. This is all I had to do:

April 2008 - Home doctor sent a letter to the surgeon.
June 2008 - Surgeon advised me to have RNY. Advised of a year long waiting list.
Feb 2009 - Pre operative screening
Now - Waiting any day to get a date. Surgery will happen within a week of the phonecall.

No psychologist.
No nutritionist.
No insurance crap.

Just an enormous waiting list. That's socialized healthcare for you. Everyone gets helped, you just gotta wait your turn. And wait and wait and wait...

You are very lucky. The insurance "crap" can be a pain, but I know the end result will be with the effort. I talked with my case manager today and she was very encouraging, I am blessed that Gastric Bypass is considered a covered surgery, so hopefully I won't have to do much fighting to get approved. I am 1/3 of the way through my pre-requisites for surgery, and all of the referrals are in for the rest of the tests and lab work. I will begin scheduling that stuff after the holiday weekend.

Things are finally moving along. I had an Upper GI, extensive lab work, a chest x-ray, an EKG and a 24 hour urine test this week. I have a PFT in 2 weeks and my nut appointment, then if everything comes back satisfactory then I will be put on the wait list for an appointment with the surgeon. I'm eager to know how all the tests go.

Default Thinking about what will change...for the better.

I went to a Mariners game last night. It was really fun and I was in great company. But, I almost didn't fit in the seat. It's not my butt, it's my little apple body. I'm looking forward to going to a sporting event and not having to worry about whether or not the seat will be uncomfortable due to my size. I'm already too heavy to sit in a booth at most restaurants.I have told a few close friends and family that I am going through the process of getting apprived for the surgery. I am amazed at the support I have received. People I never imagined, or dreamed have offered their love and support. I'm eager to get the surgery and start working my tool. From what I have heard, if all of my tests come back good. I most likely will get surgery in Mid-January. I'm going to be 31 on the 20th of this month. I have made a vow to myself that this will be the last birthday that I will celebrate as morbidly obese woman. The last year that I will cry myself to sleel because of all the time that I have wasted. I'm going to make a change. The biggest change I will ever make in my life.

Default Things are finally moving forward!!

Well I am happy to report that I have 1 test left to complete. I have to do my psych evaluation. I heard from the Bariatric case manager today who said she wanted to go ahead and schedule me for the orientation. Things are really moving along. I had a coworker who is 2 years post-op say that after the orientation they have you sit down with the scheduler and pick a date. However, the rule with my insurance company is that you have to pay your portion of the fee($1490 in my case)before you can get a surgery date. I am making a list of all the ways that I can scrimp and save to get this money saved. As lovely as it would be to be able to schedule a date in September, I know that is not realistic for me. My goal is to be able to schedule in January. Super excited!!!

Let me tell you guys...one of the best WOW moments you will experience is walking into ANY place, restaurant, friends house, baseball game etc, and not having to look around to find a seat, or a chair that your fat ass will fit into with the risk of getting stuck, or breaking the focking thing!!

It is so nice now when someone says, hey, lets go to...........and you being able to answer yes without worrying about the seating!!

I cannot wait to not have to think twice about where I will sit,to be able to go any place I want and "fit." That is definitely on my top 5 list of non number goals.

1.To be able to shop in the "normal"and"petite sections of department stores.
2.To be able to fit into any seat..amusement parks, sporting events, movie theaters.
3.To WANT to wear a bathing suit.
4.To not be nervous or anxious to eat in public, because people are watching and judging me.
5.To not live in fear of getting diabetes, high blood pressure, or osteoarthritis due to my size.

[I] know the waiting is very hard. Ihad to go to 3rd appeal to get my insurance to approve me. the good news is that all the tests helped me relieve my anxiety about the surgery. After all the testing, I felt that I was a great candidate for the surgery. I felt as healthy as an obese person can be before surgery.
Be prepared for the emotional loss of food after surgery. I wasnt really ready for the tears I would shed because I couldn't eat. The first few months were really hard as I changed my life and found new ways to comfort myself during times of stress. It is still a struggle now that I am almost 6 months out. I do feel really great now and I am more than half way to my goal weight. I do still worry about the future and wonder will I be able to keep it off and continue with my new healthy lifestyle. I pray everyday that I will.

Hang in there and best of luck!

Deb
