Gosh, I feel for you...to hear news like this when you were so close to getting the surgery.

Is there any other surgeon you might use that would be willing to do it?

FWIW bubble - there are many HA patients that have surgery at Carle in Champaign - heck of a drive for you, but an option, I suppose.

I am thinking about asking Health Alliance if they will cover me if I go to Barnes in St. Louis. Maybe they will try it. Tina, what is HA patient?

Bubble, I woul dsay get the approval, then also check into another surgeon and get a second opinion. I had a csection, hysterectomy and 2 abdominal approach back surgeries, I also had my appendix removed. I had alot of adhesions and scar tissue, my surgeon told me she would attempt the Lap RNY if too difficult she would do open or band. Fortunately for me she was able to clear away the adhesions and was abl to perform the lap RNY with no problem. ALot of times the surgeon will see once they get in there it is not as bad as they had originally thought it would be. I work for these surgeons and hear them every day say " wow that was not as bad as anticipated" so hang in there. Go talk to this surgeon and maybe get a secong opinion. BUT also remember, you are the patient and what you feel is the proper procedure my not in reality be the right one for you, THE surgeon is the mst knowledgable and is the expert at the decision not you. We are the patient for a reason and they went to school for a reason. But on the other hand you need to feel comfortable and have confidence in your surgeon. Good Luck, let us know how it goes.

I've had 6 previous surgeries for abdominal adhesions, a hysterectomy and previous WLS (a vertical banded gastroplasty, in which a had a hole poked through my stomach) and still had lap RNY. In otherwords, sliced, diced and generally internally abused. I'd look for another doc if I were you.

I want to say thanks for everybodys support. I am going to continue on and see the surgeon to see just what is the reason for not wanting to do the surgery and go from there. If it is due to some health reason he sees then so be it but if it is due to too many previous surgeries than I will seek other opinions. I just have to be patient and wait till my visit with him to ask 100 questions I guess.
