Default Mind games

Hello everyone,

I had a rough day today. Up until now I have been nervous and excited, but today my mind started playing tricks on me. I keep thinking that the surgery will fail me like I have always failed in the past. I know that with this surgery, I will have a new start and new life and be able to lose the weight successfuly, but I just keeping thinking will it work????? I have 3 more days to check in and I am a total basket case. I know I am doing the right thing. Did any of you think it would not work for you? Is this a common feeling? How am I supposed to lose 110 pounds. Will I be able to lose that much. It seems so strange. Why am I thinking this way now?

Dale:

I'm sure some of the other postees will have things to tell you that will reassure you. However, I have to tell you something I've found just recently that has been really making me feel very positive about my surgery and weight loss.

I went to the website obesityhelp.com and found a "before and after" page. It is truly amazing to see the photos and stories of hundreds (probably thousands) of success stories. The differences between the "before" and "after" photos are remarkable.

Scanning the photos and stories has given me such a boost. I feel as though if they can do it, I can do it.

Perhaps this might make you feel more comfortable about your decision and what you have to look forward to...your own "before and after" photos!

Whatever you decide, may God bless you and guide you.

This is the number one fear of just about everyone that has this surgery....fear of failure! But read the research results.....this surgery works!!!!!! And I am proof of it working! I am 2 1/2 yrs. post op and wear a size 12 at 5'6" tall, down from 273 lbs. size 24/26. It will work for you also. You're going to be just fine. The pre-op jitters are horrible....you'll get through them!!!!!! Hang in there!

Suzanne,
You are right. I know it is my pre-op jitters talking to me. Thanks for reassuring me during this anxious time. I know once it is all over and I am on the other side, I will feel a huge relief.

Dara,
Thank you for the advice. Everytime I see the before and after pictures, I feel like I can do that, too. I appreciate the support.

Dale,

You are going to do great. Everyone has some kind of fear before we have this surgery. It is totally normal. I remember being so frantic the day before....I was a freak!! <LOL> Just ask any of my girlfriends!! But everything went well and I am still losing...just like you will!!

Hang in there. This is a wonderful journey!

Thumbs up If I can do it.. so can you!!!

Dale,

I know exactly how you feel. I remember sitting in the East County group thinking that all these people had such great will power and that they were all built differently then I was. There was no way that I could be successful like them, afterall I have never lost much weight on any diet other then using phen fen and that was a short lived experience. So how would I possibly be able to do this??? Easy in the beginning you're never hungry.. I just started getting that hunger sensation which is not too bad yet. I know to expect it to get worse..

However, I am having my 3 month check up today and I will let you know what Dr. Callery or Kelly says about my progress. I think I am doing pretty darn good.. and I am very proud of myself. In 3 1/2 months I have gone from a 26/28 to a 18!!! woo hooo!!! I am almost under 200!!! Of course Dr. Callery's scale is much nicer then mine I may be there already and not know it.. hehe

So don't worry sweetie if I can do it anyone can.. but you must start exercising when you can after surgery make good use of the honeymoon period.. lose as much as you can then because afterwards I am told it is much harder..
