Well, you know what Tom Cruise would say. (And who cares, if you want my opinion.)

Definitely make sure you are comfortable with the therapist. We all need help, but they need to ease us into the changes.

Good luck!

I guess you can't see the forrest if you are hugging the tree! sorry, I just couldn't resist! I would find someone you click with better. Not every therapist is the right one for every person.

Botchy,

Where are you located? If you're in San Diego County, I can give you a referral to a wonderful psychologist.

Every therapist is different - find someone you feel comfortable talking with - why was she trying hypnosis???? Is this something you wanted to do? Check with your MD to see if there is someone in your area who specializes in bariatric surgery.

By the way, this is something that I am interested in doing in the future - counseling bariatric patients, but I have to go through my own process first!

Good luck!

I went to a bariatric counselor who was just as bad and I thought to myself...what is this lady??...crazy??? I get better support here from my friends. Sometimes I wonder if shrinks have problems with themselves that they need to sort out before giving advice...if that makes any sense.

Default No Hypnosis

I certainly wasn't into hypnosis AT ALL. She said she was going to show me a relaxation technique and next thing I know she's counting and telling me to visualize and telling me to be somewhere else and then after about five minutes counts again and tells me I'm beginning to feel alert again.... yada ... yada. She's apparently a believer in repressed memories and I AM NOT. Unfortunately she's the only female in my area taking my insurance and taking new patients. Whatever... I'd rather do without yeah? When you're more down to earth and stable than your shrink I think maybe you don't need her?? He.

Botchy,
Are there any male therapists around? Not all therapists are crazy, though people go into that field for a reason.
