:(
Hey all,
Just wanted to update you on the status of the letter. The doctor was impressed...but not enough to change his mind.
Now, I know that his decision was made with my best interest at heart and losing some additional weight before the surgery will only benefit me...but that doesn't make it suck any less. I just want the waiting for the day to come to be over. My original date was 17 days before my 30th birthday, which meant that I would no longer be on a liquid diet when I celebrate my birthday. Now my surgery date is October 30th which is 4 days after my birthday and I feel really sad about it.
I appreciate those that posted in response on the side of my doctor previously, but I am going to request that if you are reading this and feel that you want to post a response siding with my doctor, please try not to. I don't need to hear I told you so or your doctor knows best. I know that he did what was best for me and that I will be thankful in the end, but right now I am feeling very sad and disappointed and I just need some friendly, encouraging words.
Thanks...

waiting ........
there is no two ways around it waiting SUCKS and this process seems to have a lot of waiting...
And I for one DO NOT have any patience...
Look on the bright side, at least the dr did not push your surgery off a month or more. I hope the time goes fast for you, good luck!

You're gonna make it!
My surgery was momentarily "suspended" when I gained 7 pounds in two weeks. I lost it again within one week but had to beg and really explain what happened. In my case, my sister gave birth to her daughter who had some serious complications and I lived on fast food for a week while staying close to the hospital. I said to my nurse, "You should be so proud I only gained 7 pounds on two weeks of eating out!"
But they do take it seriously.
And here is lesson number one - NO DAY should change your eating. Not a birthday, not a wedding - nothing. Food is now fuel. It means nothing to you between now and goal. Do not let that mentality stay with you. Do not be sad that you can't "eat" something on your birthday because that is the old fat brain pattern. Like food is a reward - it isn't. Food is fuel. The more you can think that way, the more successful you'll be.
As much as it hurts, I think your surgeon may have done you a great big favor, no?

I didn't notice that you were from, MN, too! I live in a small town about an hour north of the cities. How about you?

Greetings TiSi's Face,
WOW....I can't believe your surgery was postponed for this. Was there something said by the surgeon when you meet him that gaining weight after this meeting could cause your surgery to be postponed?
I could understand if you did not do the 2 week or 10 day pre-surgery liquid diet-but this was before that.
Yes, it would have been better had you not gained that 14 pounds...but I was under the impression that that's why they put everyone on the pre-surgery liquid diet so that your liver could shrink, etc.
For the most part, surgeons are notorious for their lack of 'bed-side' manner and yours may be a control freak (that in NO way takes away from his surgical abilities- give me a brilliant yet obnoxious surgeon anytime over Dr. Warm&Fuzzy who is inept).
In a 'perfect' world you would not have gained the 14 pounds....but in a 'perfect' world you would not be in the situation you are weight wise to begin with.
Unfortunately your surgery has been postponed, it may not be fair but that's the way it now is...please go on and keep to your liquid diet... Good Luck!
~Michele

I know how you feel!!!
My surgery was not put off...only cause I don't have a date yet!!!
Butttt I did meet with the surgeons assistant (Kelly) after our initial consultation and I had gained 7 pounds back. She had a sad look on her face and she said well I have failed you since that meeting. That made me feel like SH*T!!! Since then and I thank her for that because it was the kick in the A*S that I needed to get real with the WLS!!! Since that day I try EVERYDAY to make the right choices with food and exercise!!!
So in the end I do say I am sorry that your date got pushed back!!! I hope this experience kicks you in the butt and reminds you everyday of your goal...HEALTHY!!! I wish you much success on your weight loss!!!

Thanks Gina! I appreciate the advice. My grandma used to always say that you should eat to live rather than live to eat and I have been trying to adopt that philosophy myself. I do want to clear up the birthday comment as I don't think that I was entirely clear on my reasoning. I see the liquid diet as being sort of uncomfortable and that is the only reason that I was hoping not to be on it anymore when my birthday rolls around. I wasn't hoping to be able to eat on my birthday as I knew I wasn't going to be able to either way.
Thanks again for the response!
