One Month To Go To The Op
Well I have been reading everybody threads and discussion I dont usually partecipate much
as I didnt think i can be of much help also because i dont think i have experience as i havent had my op yet.
Also I always try to find the info so i dont make people repeat themselves over and over .
However i'm getting so close to the day of the op 12sep08 and i know i have read so much
about you feel and how you are supposed to be react to it but i'm scared witless now and like everybody else am afraid to die, if only because it will probably kill my mum even though
she is been a great supporter of my decision.
I am just maybe pouring my emotions on this forum a bit tonight, there is a great bunch of people here i know i have silently reading and learning and taking in and using it as referral point for every question, Maybe I just wanted to tell eveyone am going to do it soon,
am i fool? will i regret this, probably nobody can tell me...
but thanks for listening

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of us had the same worries before surgery. Am I going to die? Am I doing the right thing? Will I have complications? I know I did, but it ended up being a bunch of worrying for NO REASON. Does that mean you can stop worrying? Well, yes, you can stop but you won't. Nothing anyone says will stop you from worrying over these major fears because they are completely NORMAL. But just stop and look at how many people are on this forum and how happy the majority are, (who have already had the surgery). Welcome to the club! Before you know it, you're surgery day will have come and gone and you'll be on the loser's bench with the rest of us and your weight/size will dwindle on a daily basis. There is so much to look forward to post-operatively, maybe you could try getting excited about those things instead of worrying about the what if's. Make yourself a list of goals you want to achieve and you'll be astonished at how quickly you'll be meeting those goals.
Good luck to you!

Hi - I am fairly new to this but I believe my first post expressed your same concerns. I have had a really good surgery and recovery...I get down a bit but overall I am doing very well. Will your surgery be laproscopic or open?
I am happy I did this and hope you will be too!

Letizia,
your questions are totally normal and prove you are aware of risks, negatives, other people and have explored your intended surgery. Also, your awareness of your own mortality is heightened now that you have just lost your uncle. It is totally normal to feel vulnerable. One also wonders whether anybody would miss us if we were to die. Whether our very existence is of importance to anybody at all. Surprisingly, we ARE important, and we do notice - such as your not having been around very much. As you enter this forum more and more, the closer you are to your surgery and recovery, you'll be on here a lot more, I'm sure!
Cheers,
Vim

Hey letizia.. no need to feel silly at ALL.. we've all been there with the worrying and fear over the whole surgery and how we would feel after and what might happen, etc.. You're come to the right place though.. so, glad you're posting.. Sept will be here before you know it!

Welcome, Letizia
Glad you're here, glad you poked your head up and started writing to us. I had a laparascopic surgery as well--four small scars, already disappeared pretty much, and one that was about two inches long under the left side of my ribcage.
I actually have a lot of respect for those who have these kind of fears and go ahead with the surgery--if you're not frightened, it means you haven't thought about it enough. I think of it as having risked my life to save my life, because the obesity was killing me.
There's no way to completely ready yourself for the emotional and physical rollercoaster ride, but Thinner Times Forum was a lifeline for me--and I used it at every stage of my last three years. Glad to see you here!

Not sure who you were asking.. many of us put that info in our sigs.. (Mine shows I've had "lap RNY" which means laporascopic Roux-en-Y Gastric By Pass)
Hope that helps!
