We got the results of the MRI yesterday afternoon - they have now found micro-masses in her other breast. They said they need to do a biopsy to determine if it's cancerous, and do another lumpectomy on both.

Now, this is the list of events so far -

- needle biopsy (inconclusive)
- Post lumpectomy needle localization
- lumpectomy
- another biposy
- MRI

If we go with what the doctors want, it would be -

- another needle biopsy (on the right breast)
- another needle localization (on both breasts)
- another lumpectomy (on both breasts)

THEN - were not sure if they got it all and would most likely go through yet another mammogram and other tests to ensure they got it all.

Nisa just can't go through any more needles and the pain. She's still sore from the second biopsy last week. It's emotionally and physically draining.

She has decided to have a bi-lateral mastectomy and reconstruction. It just seems they can't get it all when they do a lumpectomy. She was prepared for the news this time, and had already made up her mind (but didn't tell me - yet). I was expecting her to fall apart, and when she didn't,
that's when I knew she is done fighting and wants action.

I support her completely, and told her I married her, not her breasts. Of course, she's going through an emotional time, and rightly so. I told her were going through this together.

She IS going to get through this, and IS beating this damn thing!

Thank you so much for your support and prayers.

OH patrick. I'm so sorry she is going through this again! The bilateral mastectomy is so difficult, emotionall and physically, on a woman but it seems she is making the right decision. Please tell her that I am sending huge hugs and love her way. (hug her for me please? then have her hug you for me.) We are here if you need to vent hon.

Oh, Pat,
I'm so sorry Nisa and you are having these scary, awful tests these days. As I read through your laundry list of procedures Nisa has endured, the thought came to me that if it was me, I would have a bilateral mastectomy and be done with it. She is wise to have chosen the option with the least possibility of recurrence. Yep, it will be harder in the beginning, but worth it in the end. Have they done sentinel node biopsies on both breasts? That would be important to learn if the cancer has spread out of the breast area. She should also have scintimammography--it's a nuclear medicine study that will show if she has any more areas that need to be looked at.

My heart goes out to both of you, and I wish comfort and ease for both of you during this stressful time.

Default Nisa will be having bilateral mastectomy

We saw the surgeon today, and she agreed with Nisa's decision to have a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. It's pretty much like a "Prophylactic mastectomy". Donna - yes, they will be doing sentinel node biopsies on both sides during the surgery - and take the appropriate action when they get the results. It's amazing what they can accomplish during a surgical procedure today.

We expect to see the plastic surgeon later this week. In California, insurance companies are required by law to provide reconstruction or implants for breast cancer patients.

Were not sure if they will do both procedures at once. If they do, it will take about 10 hours, 2 for the mastectomy, and 8 for the plastic surgery. If they do just the mastectomy, she will be in the hospital for at least a day. The reconstruction, she will be there for about 3 or four days.

Yes, it's overwhelming right now, but at least we have a better understanding of what we are facing. I know I say "we", when it's Nisa that is going through this, but for me, we are going through this together. Her pain is my pain.

Thanks everyone for your prayers and support.
