Nurses, Drs, Someone Help??
OK, so I have a history of kidney stones pre wls. For the past week, I have had little pains in my right kidney, the one I have always had stones in, but nothing real bad to need pain meds or anything. Just kind of warning signs, so I up my water intake as much as I can. Well, tonite I went to restroom and now have blood in my urine. I have never had any pain when peeing prior to kidney stones, but now I burn a little. I am hoping it is just a bladder or kidney infection, but I am scared to death till tomorrow when I can call the DR. Is there anything I can take to maybe get rid of this on my own. We have ins. but a $30 copay and let me just say we are beyond broke ( I am talking utilities getting ready to be turned off broke), but I am hoping there is something I can use that is real cheap. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.

I'm not any help since I've never had kidney stones or urinary problems...but wanted you to know that I feel for you! Things will get better for you both healthwise and financial...
But remember you HAVE to take care of yourself, don't let things go too long without contacting your doctor, okay?
Take care and I'll be thinking about you and your family.
Cathy

Get in touch with your Dr. especially with the blood. This can lead to worse pain and additional problems.
I would like to believe that if you told your physicians office of the financial problem at the moment that you they may allow you a visit and pay the copay later. Dont sit back and wait for it to pass. This is affecting a very important person.

My husband and I had been thru some bad financial times so I understand. But please contact your PCP. They may be able to either give you a break on the co-pay or give you more time to pay it. Don't let a $30 problem become a larger one. If you have an infection, nothing over the counter will help. 12 years ago, my husband and I filed chapter 13. We don't exactly get the best interest rates, but our credit is pretty solid now. In 1 year, I was able to quit my job and go back to school to become a nurse. Since my husband works construction, if he doesn't work he doesn't get paid. So we had never had a regular amount of money we could depend on every month. There are only so many jobs you can work without running yourself into an early grave. Have you looked into a financial couselor or other free services like that? I'm keeping you and your family in my prayers. But please make sure you call your doctor. hugs....Sue

i agree with Sue honey. Especially it really sounds like an infection there would be no over the counter you'll need strong antibiotics I'm sorry Izan i know EXACTLY what you mean by broke girl

THANKS!!!! I ended up in the ER after I typed this. My urine turned really bloody and figured it was better to end up with the $200 ER copay than 4 different copays with PCP, CATSCAN, LABS, and UROLOGY, plus my percentage of 30%. Turns out I must have passed a small stone through the kidney as no stones were found there. There was also no sign of infection, just lots of blood, and dehydrated. Really couldn't figure that one out as I have been trying for at least 70ozs a day. Really hard, Ms Thumbkin doesn't like it. I was in the ER from 11:30 pm to 4:45 am. They only reason I got out that fast was because 6 people in front of me gave up and went home. So I am on bactrium for any infection that might start for 3 days, and some other pill that turns your urine and tears orange. I guess I better not cry for a while, or piss on myself haha!!!! It is actually suppose to help with passing the stone that must be in my bladder. I plan on discussing with my PCP about what might be going on, because I always show protein in my urine with no cause, My urine was just checked on the 2nd of this month and they said it was clear, and now this just 27 days later. So thanks again to all that responded and offerred me support. I really appreciate it.

I'm glad you went to the ER cuz I was about to LECTURE YOU! (only cuz I luv ya hon!) I just took a vicodin for my knee so I am drawing a blank on the med that turns things orange but I HATE THAT STUFF! It does NOT come out of scrubs. Or shoes.
I hope you find some kind of answer hon.
(Small lecture: NEVER let a copay stand in your way of treatment. EVER! Just tell them "Bill me!" This is what I do. You pay it later, when you can. Lecture over.)
