Katie,
What a shame the powers that be screwed you up. These are what my approach would be--(and I already hear my fam laughing, they all make fun of how I word stuff like this...)

To the office staff at the DR's:
"As it was your mistake in losing my letter of approval, MY EXPECTATION is that you will reschedule the person to whom you gave my spot. I would have expected you to call me if you hadn't received or seen my approval letter, and if you had I could've faxed you mine. You showed no qualms about canceling MY surgery date (and not telling me about it), so there should be no problem giving me back the date I have had for the last 2+ months. It is appropriate service recovery, and I expect nothing less." Then I would insist on speaking with your surgeon, with whom you seem to have a great relationship, and inform him of your predicament and his office staff's part in it.

Secondly, and I mean no disrespect to DH whatsoever, but c'mon, get on the band wagon. I understand that no one wants to be in a Skilled Nursing Facility (different from a nursing home, much less stigmatic!), BUT he knows how much of your life has been diverted to being his caregiver, and he knows (or should know) how vitally important this surgery is to you. A truly loving spouse would suck it up and go to the SNF for the time you need to recoup from the surgery. If it's done lap, that wouldn't be too long, and if they do it open, just a little bit longer. Again, I'm sure DH is a wonderful, loving man, but I gotta say it sounds pretty selfish to refuse to go to the SNF for his IV, expecting you to put your life on hold because he would have to be someplace without his favorite nurse. If there was no snafu with the schedule, would he still be refusing to go to the SNF while you had your surgery?

Katie, I feel SO badly for you, Sweetie! You are there EVERY SINGLE time he has needed you, and this one time that you need him to step up he closes the door on you.....I'm sending you cyber hugs to you and accommodating energy to your DH and surgeon's office. This is just plain mean, and you don't deserve it!

Do you want me to sic Michelle on the 'misguided' office staff? With the way her stuff has been going, believe me, she would be thrilled to have an outlet for her personal kicks in the teeth.

*offers a (bony) shoulder and a box of tissues*

Katie, This you shall also overcome and get through. It sucks, its horrible, and darlin, I feel for you. I get the feeling many roadblocks are being thrown in front of you and I find when those roadblocks are put in front of me, I just get stronger, more determined and more focused. YOU ARE GOING TO GET THROUGH THIS! Stay focused, keep watching your pre-op diet and I am still saving a seat for you. It will all work itself out.

Toony, I'm so sorry (big sigh).
Your DH is prideful. When my mother in-law had hip replacement surgery she had to get help for rehabilitation. Her husband was no help in finding a place or driving her to and from to get her help. When I went to visit her I clearly knew she was in a bad predicament and found her a nursing home for her. Yes, it was difficult but after she was there she found peace. She got the rehabilitation she needed and was grateful afterwards and thanked me. Sometimes we have to take hold of the steering wheel and just do what needs to be done. He'll be mad for sure, but you need time to heal too. Soon enough you will be back together and he'll get over it and you will too.

Sounds like someone dropped the ball with scheduling. They have to follow there rules and if something is out of order they bump the schedule. It’s not always fair. I know you are anxious to get the surgery over with. I would call and try to work things out but I fear they won’t change things. Remember, you can’t always fix things to work out your way, sometimes there’s a reason for the madness that you don’t know about.

This is beautiful! I would just read this to them on the phone. Donna, excellent wording! Toony, I hope you get this resolved!

Eric, you get an "A" for this fluid and thoughtful response.

I know - 7 days is 7 days... but you have to understand, our son has vacation next week to take charge of his dad...

our DD arranged a day off to take me to the hosp... and I've arranged a friend to sit with her...

and then there is work --- they've reset meetings for *ME*

and finally, there is the DIET... I know an extra week on it wouldn't hurt me, Lord knows I need to lose weight with or without the surgery... but mentally, I don't know if I can do 7 more days (56 more shakes) of this...

THAT BEING SAID...

I cried and pleaded my case --- I had my Weight Loss Team leader crying for me... The nurse at the hospital didn't know what was going on, but she felt so badly for me, she gave me a gift card to the Gift Shoppe! And the poor DH got all riled up as well... he all but got out of bed to pat me on the back to say it'll be ok... The best they could offer was to add a 3rd case onto the "boys" (surgeons) on Feb. 11... or wait until March! YIKES!!! The patient who took my slot has cancer and the surgery is more important than mine... (If it's so important, do it today)... soo...

THEN MY PHONE RANG:

One of my surgeon's patients bailed... and my slot reopened and
I'M BACK ON FOR FEBRUARY 5TH... FAT TUESDAY IS STILL MY DATE!!! I swear my Weight Loss Team leader was in tears as she told me --- and said she OWES me something big for this turmoil... It'll be interesting to see what she comes up with... and I know she'll come up with something! We've formed a pretty good friendship over the past 6 months...

Thanks for all the support and suggestions... this, for a change had a happy ending! I feel like a truck ran over me today, but am picking myself up, brushing myself off and getting on with life per planned...

WHEW!!!

Thanks you guys... I love you all!

Katie

PS: I bought me a pair of cute dangly heart earrings at the gift shop... nice memento of my day!!!
