Default Foot Pain Help!!!

Okay so for the past few days I have been having HORRIBLE pain in the heel of my foot.It is 530am as I am writing this because it is soooo painful that I can not sleep.I have been sitting here googling it to see what it could be and diabetes keeps coming up.Does anyone here have diabetes and foot pain.I also have thyroid disease and forgot to fill my perscription.I feel like I have a constant cramp and shooting pain.I am taking like 10 tylenol a day for the past three days.Its almost like a charlie horse running from my heel to the back of my leg but when i stretch it hurts much much worse.I dont even know how I am going to get through work today.Wish me luck.

May possibly be plantar faciitis. this can be very painful. NSAIDS are best but unfortunately, we can't take those. Go see either your PCP or a foot specialist. There are foot splints, steriods, and exercises that can help. Does it seem to hurt worse in the morning when you first start walking on it? You may also need to look at what types of shoes you are wearing. They may not have enough arc support. This could also be a heel/bone spur. You would try the same treatments for the plantar faciitis. This is a common problem with us "heavy" folks. Try icing it as well. Hope you feel better! Sue

I'm with Sue on this one. I'd bet that Plantar Fasciitis is the problem, but you need to have this diagnosed by a doctor. I have had it several times. It's very painful and tightens up overnight so that it hurts worst when you first step out of bed. I ended up with orthodic arch supports for my shoes and it still took about a year for it to completely go away to where I could take them out of my shoes.

For now... never take a step without shoes on. Literally, step out of your bed into shoes with a good arch support (Athletic shoes are usually a good choice). You can do this for religiously for weeks and then one time neglect to do it and be back at step one and have to start over. This was hard for me because the first thing I do when I get home is take my shoes off.

Get in to see the podiatrist as soon as you can. It has been my experience that it won't get better on it's own without constant, high quality arch support. Orthodic shoe inserts that your doctor has made from molds of your feet are the best.

Okay I have an appt next wed.I am glad for your feedback for I have been seeing alot of stuff about foot pain and diabetes and that had me soooo scared.I have been on my pre op protien diet so it would be such a crappy event of luck to get diabetes now.Thanks again for all your support

That's right...you are still pre-op! Go get you some advil or aleve girl! NSAIDS are better for that then tylenol because of the anti inflammartory properties. (can't spell well today). Either take 3-4 OTC advils every 8 hrs or 2 aleves every 12. If you need too, you can take tylenol in addition to this.

Lord, please don't see a podiatrist... I have treated SO many patients who have been screwed up by them, sometimes just butchered beyond repair. Anyway...

If you can, see a sports med doc or an orthopedist. Even a family doctor will be able to treat it. In the meantime, 2-3 x a day massage the bottom of your foot from that sore spot on the heel to the base of the big toe, and don't be afraid to dig in... especially on the really painful spot on the heel. Plantar fasciitis can lead to heel spurs, because the tight fascia constantly tugging on that insertion point can stimulate calcium deposits/bone growth. Stretch the calf a LOT during the day, with the knee straight AND bent, and stretch the big toe up as much as you can too. Try stretching also before you get out of bed in the a.m.

Doc might prescribe an anti-inflammatory, physical therapy, orthotics... just do get it looked at soon, you don't want it to turn into a chronic thing and you especially don't want to wind up with a spur. And good luck!

Thanks so much for your advice!Actually i started doing the advil yesterday as Sue suggested.It helped SO much.Its actually feeling better when I am up and around on it.I had my hunny massage it for me last night too!!!!

She's still pre-op so it's okay. I have taken NSAIDS twice since my surgery. The first time was 2 years out. Had pulled groin muscle. nothing else worked. took only 3 doses and it was better. 2nd time was this am.pulled muscle on left side of chest and had major muscle cramps/spasms last night. rare or occasional use won't harm the pouch. I know my surgeon said it's a no-no for the first year no matter what the circumstances. And, I only used the OTC and not the actual Rx dose.
