Post Des...hang in there!

Des...I agree with what some have said here...second and third opinions are a must, although it is very time consuming, in the end it can be worth it. Research everything, including the long term affects of having to have the prostate removed. Just do your homework. I am praying for you and your fam...Take care and keep us posted! Also, thanks for trusting your support group enough to share and seek our advice!

I'm keeping you guys in my thoughts. Sending good, healthy vibes your way for good news at your appointment.

I definitely sympathize with you guys. My dad has been dealing with prostate cancer for almost 7 years now. When I first heard the news, I was devestated. My dad was a newlywed at the time, and my then brand-new stepmom really was heroic in her unwavering support which helped so, so much. The doctor caught it very, very early, but his first doctor still recommended removal of the prostate. My dad seriously considered it before deciding he hated the potential side effects, so he got a second opinion. His second doctor said he would never recommend removal as a first choice in a case like my dad's where it was caught so early and hadn't spread yet. What my dad ended up having done was "radiation seed therapy" where they inject radiation seeds into the prostate. It killed off the cancer...but it unfortunately came back later. My dad is living a pretty normal life on hormone medication and the cancer has stabilized so that it is in his prostate and one lymph node, but not spreading. Sorry if this is more info than you want or need, but I agree with everyone above that when I face a scary challenge like this, I like to have lots of info. Hopefully, it will help, or at least reassure you that you are not alone. Like I said above, my thoughts are with you. Please let us know how his appointment goes (if DH doesn't mind!).
