Unhappy Still Miserable-And Sick

First I want to thank everyone who responded to my first post in post-op.
Your words of encouragement helped. But I am still suffering so much.
I had my rou-en-y done on Feb. 7 and I still have nausea and heaving. So much so that my back and chest hurt. My doc sent me for an upper G.I. yesterday. It came back fine, showing my pouch was emptying as it should. I was happy because I was afraid I was leaking. The doc is prescribing Compazine for the nausea. He still has me on clear liquids, altho' I am eating cream soups. I know I am not getting enough nutrition, and definately not enough fluids. Can anyone tell me why for the nausea? I am getting to the point of being afraid to consume anything.

It could be the cream soups causing the nausea. Clear liquids means clear liquids, hun.

Ok, I see your point. But a month and still no real food? I've read they call gastric bypass controlled starvation, but this is ridiculous!

Smile be patient

Its only temporary, the first 3 months are the hardest... keep your eyes on the prize sugar pea. Right now, I know its a drag n stuff but it will get better. Let me tell you what I had to endure. i got pancreatitis and was readmitted to the hospital 10 days after surgery. For the three days before it, I couldnt eat at all... couldnt drink either. it wouldnt stay down, I had to suck ice.... I was totally dehydrated but I thought this was all apart of the surgery.... while in the hospial for a lil over 3 weeks I was put on artifical nutrition (food in an IV bag) and couldnt eat ANYTHING at all. Then the last couple of days they started me on clear fluids again, hated it to no end, but it was nice to chew again. then at home for the next 2 weeks, artifical nutrition and clear liquids. My point, I know how much of a pain in the a$$ it is, but like I said before, its only temporary, it will pass in due time. In the end it will be worth it. Stay on the clear for a couple of weeks, stuff is still healing on the inside, in your case its just taking a wee bit longer than it has for others. You dont want to risk an ulcer in your new pouch. take it easy, I know it stinks, eat sugar fee popsicles, that got me through it... to this day I cannot look at Jello without becoming nauseous... broth too. But in just a maater of months you will be able to "EAT" again. I know you are in the , "What in the heck did I do to myself stage." We have all been there, but it will be a thing of the past I promise. Best wishes sweetie.

I had a lot of nausea also the first three weeks so Kelly told me to eat a couple of crackers to help with that but that is was caused by the release of hormones from the fat I was loosing so rapidly. Kind of like morning sickness. It will pass soon.

Thumbs up nausea

I was pretty much on soft foods and liquids for the first six months post-op. I had a lot of problems with Nausea and vomiting.. for no reason!! I was fed up!! I had had it. I am glad that I got past that stage and now can eat anything.. within reason. I still don't do sugars because that is a trigger food for me.. and I don't want to go there. However, I got through it and so can you. It sucks and seriously if you ever want to talk or vent or yell.. call me.. I have been there.. I am willing to listen.

My problem was ultimately an ulcer. That doesn't show up on an Upper GI usually. I am getting that problem solved right now. However, I did also notice that it was worse when I didn't eat anything or get enough liquids in. So I must request that you try and get your fluids in. I felt better when I was getting my fluids in. Make sure that you take your vitamins also. During that time I was not getting enough nutrition and wasn't taking my vitamins as I should have and got malnurished it has caused more problems than I can tell ya. I was also put on Reglan for my nausea.. However, I have thrown those away now as I would take them periodically still if I had a problem.. apparently according to my GI Doctor that medication causes Neurological problems.. (Things that make you go hmmmmm.. I have NEUROLOGICAL PROBLEMS!!!!) Why didn't Dr. Callery know this about that medication? Why didn't he recognize that I was taking that and put 2 & 2 together? I don't know.. he may not know the side effects of the drug well enough. I will educate him about that on my 12 month post op appointment.

Good luck to you and seriously call me anytime.. private message me if you want my number.. take care sugar pea
