Serenity Prayer - we talked about at group
PRAYER FOR SERENITY
God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;
taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is;
not as I would have it;
trusting that YOU will make all things right
IF I surrender to your will;
so that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with You forever in the next.
AMEN

I posted this because we were talking about it at the early support group this week and I thought maybe not too many people have read the whole thing...... Most people only know it by the first pharagraph. I didn't know the whole thing for years.
I think that it is great prayer for patience. I know that pre op and even now I struggle with wanting things done now and in my time. I guess I am memeber is the instant gratification world. I hate that about myself. Oh well I guess I need to go read my own post now.
Love ya guys

Thanks, Barbara!
I, too, have never seen the rest of this.
But even just the first part is a really good tool.
One of the best things I learned about it through my experience with OA, is that sometimes you can actually change some things you once thought you couldn't! So the wisdom to know the difference grows in time, and we can begin to do things we never thought possible.
Great post - thank you!
Phil

Barbarajo.....
This is just beautiful! I've never the poem in it's entirety!
I'm definitely going to print this off, maybe even cross-stitch it and put it up somewhere... it's too beautiful not to have it all.
Next Saturday, the 12th, is the memorial service for our nephew who commited suicide last week, he was a veteran and the service is going to be at the Veterans of Foreign Wars in San Jacinto, I know it's going to be a heart-wrenching thing to have to attend, but this poem surely will put things in perspective. I know, as we sit through this, that the Lord will be in the midst and help our family to get through this~
Thank you Barbarajo for posting this, it sure came at a perfect time!
