Ms. Whitney,
Why in the world didn't you call me? Geez, grrl, I thought we were good friends, and good friends take the load off our shoulders when needed. My shoulders are broad enough to comfort you!
Now. Your mom's mammo. Find out what her Bi Rad rating is. It should be somewhere between 0-4. When you find out, I can translate for you. Also, there is a test that can be done that is very accurate and doesn't involve cutting. It's called Scintimammography. It's a nuclear medicine test. Google it for explanation.
Above all, try not to freak. Even if it is cancer, it can be dealt with and banished from her body! Especially with all the love and healing energy going out to the two of you. Freaking out will only steal strength you will need later on for this or another part of your life, so breathe, Darlin'--we're here for you, including the two Babes from Collwood Blvd!
Love you so much, Sweetie.

Whit,
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. 6 years ago my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was found early, thank God. She actually had to have two lumpectomy's (they didn't get it all the first time), then she went thru Radiation, she did not have to have Chemo. She has been Cancer free since then. I know you're freaking out right now, and I wish there was something I could do or say to make it better for you. If you need anything, please feel free to call me.
You and your mom are in my thoughts and prayers.
Lori

Thanks again so much for your love and support...and for sharing your life stories and offering hope through your experiences.
Donna..I am sorry to have not called you. I got a new purse that I will affectionately call the black hole. I thought I lost my phone, and the dang thing was in there the whole time. It is charging right now so I will have enough juice in it to call you after work today after I find out anything my mom knows so that I can sound halfway intelligent. I will be sure to ask her about her rating though

Whit,
I am so sorry I didn't get to call you back last night, our friend didn't leave until very late your time. But I did find the "recipe" I was talking about and can give that to you when we next talk. Michelle has to see the knee surgeon this afternoon, so I will call you after that and before group.
Hang in there Sweetie!
(((hugs)))

Breast Cancer
My best friend is going through chemo now and will be starting radiation in January. She did not feel her lump and it was only found by the mammogram (thank goodness)! The only time chemo is usually ordered is if lymph nodes are involved. My friend thankfully chose a mastecomy over a lumpectomy because when they got back the pathologist report, there was another suspicious area in the breast that would not have been caught. My gyn. told me that "you would be surprised how often that gets missed in a lumpectomy." Of course, everyone has to make the decision they are most comfortable with at the time.
Best wishes to your Mom and everyone get those annual mammograms. It could really save your life!

Whitney, I am so sorry you and your mom are having to go through this. My best friend had breast cancer several years ago. She had chemo and radiation and has been clear for over 5 years now. She laughs sometimes over the fact that she forgets she had it. She is a strong woman who had lots of support. I suspect your mom is in the same situation. You both are in my thoughts and prayers. {{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}

Hey all...
I have bn sort of quiet for the past week because we relly didn't know much. Here's the latest: Mom had a lumpectomy last Friday because the lump was so deep, they basically did a "surgical biopsy", so they didn't take any lymph nodes at that time. Monday the results came back positive (after a bi-rad 5 rating on her mammo, we pretty much figured that to be true). She spoke with her doc on Tuesday and is going in tomorrow for a uni-lateral mastectomy as it has gone into her lymph nodes. She did have an MRI yesterday and it confirmed that her left breast remains unscathed by this which is very good. They will allow her 3-4 weeks to recover, and then they will start the radiation/chemo treatments although her treatment is still unknown because they will submit her mastectomy results and file to the "tumor board" who will offer a suggested course of treatment.
Mom is a fighter. She was in great spirits when I spoke to her a while ago, and twice in the course of the conversation she called herslef a survivor. My mom almost died three years ago from pnemonia that had gone "sepsis" (sorry - don't know if that is the true spelling), and she beat the odds and recoverd, and her attitude is the same right now. My moms business here on earth just ain't done yet, and she will fight this with everything she has in her. She is basically saying, "F** you, cancer!!", and is being very aggresive her role as the one needing to be healed (being an advocate for herself). She will evn be keeping a journal and will be taking "progress picures".
I know this thread died, and is depressing, but I still would appreciate your prayers and positive thoughts especially since she will be "under the knife" again tomorrow and just starting her journey through hell and back.
Thank you to you all for your well wishes and support to this point - I have passed them along to mom, and she was very touched.
Van - thank you so much for keeing yor mom in the loop...and please please update her and thank her for her help so far.
And Donna - My Donna - I do not know what would do without you through this whole thing. You have been such a rock, and my fountain of knowledge. I love you and are so very blessed to have you
Ok...serves me right for having a glass of wine - I get all mushie gushie with you and start tearing up. Nighty night
