Took Zoloft (100mg) for over 6 years. Helped me tremendously. Not on it anymore, but some days I think I may need to consider going on it again. I always wondered if it contributed to my weight (gain), doctors here give it to obese patients to help them with eating issues....tied into the "living the life of an obese person" as well. It certainly was an appetite suppresant for me.

I've been taking Effexor for about 5 years, starting when I was at the point of screaming my head off at a very rebellious 15 year old daughter. It has worked wonders for me. However, now that I think I don't need it any more, it makes me ill to not take it. Missing a dose accidentally has the same effect. So I'm slowly weaning myself off it.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do. PS...No PMS issues while taking Effexor either.

I've been on Lexapro for years. I tried many others but I like Lexapro because it allows me to actually feel emotions. Some days I am even down...but not so far that I'm in that pit (I know everyone who suffers from depression knows that pit). It allows me to think clearly so that I can make the decisions I need to make and it allows me to function. All the others I tried either made me feel like I wasn't me. Lexapro doesn't do that.
Obviously I can't recommend it to anyone because we are all different but it has been a life-saver for me.

I tried Lexapro for a short time. It really worked great with the depression and anxiety. However, like others have mentioned, it kills you sex drive and for me anyway it made orgasms basically impossible. At that point I was married just over a year...so this side effect completely sucked. I then switched to Wellbutrin 150mg. This worked really well for a little while. After about a year, I didn't really get depressed I just got really cranky. EVERYTHING would annoy me. So we simply went to the 'normal dose' of 300mg.

This medicine hasn't changed who I am. I am still overly sensitive (have been forever). I am an emotional and very feeling kind of person. That has not changed. It simply helps me see what is important. I don't concentrate on the negative and I can let things go.

Good luck with your doctors appt and your decision.

Yes it does have that nasty side effect even though the literature and medical professionals will tell you that weight gain is NOT a side effect of Lexapro. I've gained weight on it myself.

Default Lexapro and weight loss

No issues here with weight gain.I was on it for almost a year and a half.

We all react differently to drugs although my Dr say it could be a side effect.

Default Let's hope not...

Did some reading on Lexapro--which is what my doc prescribed today. And it actually changes the way some people's bodies deal with carbohydrates, thus the weight gain. Since we're supposed to be on low-carb anyway, hopefully it won't be a factor. Fingers crossed... his reasoning is that it is the one with the fewest side effects out there right now, and that its effects begin in about two weeks, rather than six to eight weeks. At this point, it all seems like a big shrug to me... which is part of the problem.

Lisa I'm so glad you got something. Having been depressed for what seems like my whole life, I know how horrible it is. I hope the Lexapro works as well for you as it has for me.
