Michelle, logically you made the right decision for yourself and your environment. HOWEVER, logic has nothing to do with parting with a beloved pet, regardless of the reason. There is truly grief and devastation. I can so relate. I am so sorry, dear one.

Michelle, I'm sorry you're having to go through this - I think you made the right decision, but it's still a difficult one, I know.

Default You can't know the reason

Duckie honey,
You can't know the reason behind his behavior. Dogs just don't talk things out well. I haven't read all the replies, so forgive me if I tell you a useless story that touched my life.

One of my students was playing in her yard and the next door neighbor's dog, whom she'd played with many times, came running across the yard and attacked her. It took 5 surgeries for her to get her face back to "normal". They of course put the dog down, did an autopsy and found the dog had a HUGE brain tumor (That isn't the technical word for it - it is like a wasting away thing of the brain). The vet didn't understand how he could have been walking and eating normally it was so bad. The dog was only 5 years old. He had snapped at someone the week before, but they had no way of knowing what was going on.

It was a tragedy all the way around, but obviously, sometimes there is a reason and we have to do what we have to do. Thank goodness you're alright. I know it has got to be awful for you. I am very sorry.

Default Sorry, too...

Ah, Ducks, I'm so sorry. Unfortunately, as Gina said, they can't tell us what's going on in their heads and their bodies.

My personal opinion is that there is not only a heaven for dogs, but they get an automatic pass--because the only angry ones I've ever met were the ones who were made that way by humans, either through indiscriminate breeding, training or treatment. And I don't mean your treatment of him, but there's simply no way for you to know what he went through before you got him. Dogs are our reflection in every way. We don't know why humans do what we do, and sometimes we don't know why our fur-friends do what they do either. I'm so sorry.
