Default Another New Member In Need of Help

I am from Georgia and not quite sure how I came across this web site, but really like what I have seen so far. It seems you all have the same doctors. I had my first surgery in August 04 in Florida, then had a blockage and had to have another surgery exactly a month later. I had a very hard time and a long recovery, but doing very well now. I have lost 92 lbs so far and until recently was doing excellent. All of the sudden, I feel out of control and some of my old habits are coming back. I eat things I know I shouldn't have (even though not very much) and I am so scared. I went through far too much to blow this because of my own weakness. Is this normal or am I heading for deep trouble? Please give me advice.

Feelinggood,

Welcome to our forum. You see old habits coming back, and you came to the right place. We've all been there, or will be there some time in the future. The best thing to do is to get it out, and realize that you may be starting down the path of self destruction again. Congrats on your weight loss. The best thing to do is to stick with us and the forum and really keep yourself honest with your weight loss. When you realize you are doing things that you would have done in the past, ask yourself why am I doing this.. and what do you need to do to stop that behavior.

Seek outside help as well if you need to. There is no shame in counseling at all. Also some go to overeaters annonymous meetings as well to keep them focused. I wish you were closer we'd draw you into our support groups and give you big hugs!!

Hang in there, you're going to do great. Trust in yourself. You can always pull yourself back. This surgery gives you a tool that you can constantly use if you use it wisely you won't fail..

Thanks Christina. I have been finding that I have more of an appetite and that scares me. For so long, I had to force myself to eat and couldn't even begin to handle meat. Now, I find I am eating some meat and I don't get full like I used to. My doctor said I could have diet pepsi if I could handle it and although I don't drink much, I am reading on this forum that it is not a good thing for me to do. My doctor's believes that we can pretty well eat what we want, just not very much. I think that is bad advice for me, as that is just permission to go back to old habits and that seems to be the way my mind is working lately. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone in this. I have been hunting for a place where I could talk to people who have had this surgery. Again thank you.

Thumbs up No Problem

Also somewhere on this forum is the "Pouch rules for dummies" it is very specific about what you should do.

Also remember, even though you feel as if you are eating too much, you probably aren't. At certain points you start to be able to eat more. It is a natural process. So you may not be eating as much as you think.. don't stress.. we're here for ya!!

Cool

I started having a problem with snacking. I have really cut back on snacking. I did this by telling myself NO you can't have it. I also figured out why I wanted it. I wanted it because I was bored, not because I was hungry. I now pick up a book and read when I feel the need to snack. It has helped a lot!! Let me tell you I have gone through 3 books in a month , currently on the 4th, but hey it's better than eating. I also go on line and talk on the computer or read the posts on the forum. That helps also. Find out what you can go to make yourself un-bored if that's the problem, because it really does help.

Thumbs up

I do know that a lot of my problem is boredom. That is a long story, but I know it is a big part of what is going on. I also know that I have had such bad habits for so long and now that the appetite is coming back, I am having some of the old cravings. I am a carb freak and I don't want to get back into that old habit. Thanks for all the advice. I think I have found a place where I can get some help and support.

Smile Try this

Plan 5 small meals a day... you will be amazed at how this works....

for me
7:30 Protein shake

9:00 piece of string cheese and 3 slices of bacon
10:30 yogurt or try an apple
12:00 lunch usually shrimp or salmon salad or cottage cheese and pepperoni slices, refried beans with cheese and sour cream... and okay the occasional taco bell taco sometimes
3:00 Jerkey or maybe more shrimp with cocktail sauce or even another string cheese
6:30 dinner time... can be anything... beef stroganoff, fish, steak.. whatever, baked chicken, and veggies.

This has worked for me n stuff... I hope it can for you too!

Thanks for the advice. I think awareness on my part, that there may be a problem or at least one on the horizon if I'm not careful, is the first step to getting back on track. I do not want to go back to the old life. I think I just get a bit scared sometimes. You started at the same weight I did....Congratulations on 125 lbs. That is so wonderful.
