Deb, I'm so sorry that your mom and you are going through this. Pancreatic cancer is mercifully quick, and the hospice people will make her comfortable and look out after you as well. My thoughts are with you during this sad, hard time. Remember you have chosen family here, and we will hold you up whenever you need us.

My mother lived with me the last 18 months of her life. She too had dementia and other health problems. Hospice was a true blessing to us all during that difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

This Deb in CA will be praying for the Deb in Texas. I'm so sorry.
Please remember to take a few moments everyday and breathe deeply and remember that your mom would not want you to neglect your health by forgetting to eat properly at this very important time...
Please take care of yourself, Deb.

Thanks
Thanks to everyone for the support. We had to move her to a facility yesterday as her care needs are very great. They are nice so far. Hospice kicks in after 21 days. Medicare is a pain. I feel a bit relieved that they can give her the care she needs. with me back at work I just coulnd't do it anymore. I feel bad about that sometimes. Please keep up the prayers.

Sweetie, I have your Mom and you in my thoughts. This period is definately trying and emotioanlly draining, you are doing the best you can for your Mom and what I good daughter she has for someone seeing to her care. So many people end up alone without their loved ones. Remember your health and that your life came from your Mom and she would want that you were taking good care of yourself. Turn some of the mental strain over to the care givers and hospice, they are experts with dealing with this, and please know that what you are doing is nothing less than being a wonderful loving daughter.

Dear Deb,
I just lost my Dad in Jan 06 to pancreatic cancer and a good friend to the disease in May. I have to echo everyone's comments on Hospice, they are indeed a blessing. I will be praying for your mother and for you. It is hard to lose the second parent (my mom died of lung cancer in 1991). Be sure to take care of yourself physically with lots of water, protein and sleep.
Peace and Grace,
Mavis

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mother
Deb, I'm so sorry about your mother's illness. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mother in this painful and difficult time. I hope and pray that your mother will receive the comfort, love and support she needs while she is in hospice and that she will find peace when it is her time. I also hope and pray that you will receive the comfort, love and support YOU need while going through this ordeal. It's hard enough to face the loss of a loved one without feeling that we should be doing more to care for them. Please be loving and gentle with yourself and treat yourself well, including eating enough to sustain yourself. I'm sure that you've been a wonderful caregiver and that you wish you could still be the one to help her through this stage, but the hospice workers will be in the best position to help your mother AND you as you both go through this.
My own mother (age 64) moved in with me a year-and-a-half ago when she was battling Stage IVb cervical cancer, so I can sympathize with many of your emotions. My mother successfully went through rounds of chemo and radiation, however, and is doing well. She will actually be MY caregiver when I am post-op. Although she drives me insane at times, she is a great person and great mother. I am blessed to have her in my life and am grateful for the time that I have with her and for her help. If she needs my help as your mother has needed yours, I hope that I will be as strong, caring, and compassionate as you have been. You are an inspiration, and my heart goes out to you. God bless you and your mother.

You're in my thoughts...I am fortunate to have both of my parents and can't imagine losing either.
Sending long-distance hugs.
