Lot's O Stuff going thru my mind!
Now that I’ve won over “THEM”, I’ve noticed a few things. First, I went with my wife to go shopping. Normally I would feel bored, and not be least interested in clothes – I can’t fit in most of them anyway! My wardrobe currently consists of the following:
1 pair jeans
3 pairs slacks for work (that are getting rather old)
7 shirts for work (with ties of course)
An assortment of t-shirts I wear on the weekends.
3 knit shirts for going out.
Shorts with an elastic band for around the house.
As for clothes that don’t fit (right now), I have a ton of them. Even pants I’ve grown out of I kept because I knew one day I’d be wearing them again. I have more than the stuff I CAN wear in the closet.
So, I’m out with my wife, and I actually started shopping for ME. Looking at the fashions and stuff that will soon be available to me, it was almost overwhelming (I know, silly, huh?) My wife thought I was crazy until I told her I’m only looking, and don’t buy me any more clothes for the time being.
Oh, and I’ve been thinking a lot about the surgery. Okay, this is weird, but I can’t wait to experience the things my loser brothers and sisters have experienced:
Pre-Hell Week (3 day liquid diet)
Hell Week (Bring it ON!)
Learning to eat all over again
Dumping
Buying a baby spoon – for me to use (hell, maybe I’ll get a silver one)!
Stocking up on SF popsicles, jello, and crystal lite
Stocking up on B-12 and other vitamins
Wondering why the hell I did this to myself, remembering why – and smiling
Walk-Sleep-Sip
Bottled Water!
And the other side?
Being able to pick clothes off the rack
Tying my shoes without running out of breath
My clothes not binding when I sit in a car
Going upstairs without getting winded
No more skin infections
I can actually find a belt that fits at the department store
Looking down and seeing my feet for the first time in years
Going to the gym and actually ENJOYING exercising
Not sweating like a stuck pig in the summer
Wearing my leather jacket again
My back stop hurting so much
No more diabetes medication and sticking myself to check my blood sugar
To actually get up out of bed instead of rolling off
Not seeing the scale go past 200-225-250+
Knowing my sport coats will fit from one season to the next
Tying my shoe laces on top and not at the side
I can actually think about these things instead of only dream about them.

Pat, Since you are a guy (we seem to lose faster)it won't take long for you to notice a big difference. Like you I am still closet shopping, although I'm now down to my last size. Yesterday I went with my wife to Wall Mart, while she was shopping I drink coffee a Mc.D. I always pick the free standing chairs because I never fit in the bolted down ones, I tried them all I had 4 or 5 inches clearence every time. Tim

Patrick,
I am sooo happy for you. I've only been on for a couple of months but have been reading back through and catching up on old posts. You've worked so hard and have still been such an encouragement to others.
You really deserve this! Congratulations!!

I hear ya about the clothes in the closet. I have at least twice as many items hanging there that don't fit as do. I caught myself yesterday at the grocery store, for the first time looking for things to eat post-op, more than stuff that's urgently needed in the kitchen right now LOL... and I've not even seen a surgeon yet! Funny how we get so completely obsessed with this, isn't it?

Pat,
Dare I say you are so prepared, this will all seem anticlimactic?
I've been 'shopping' in my own closet for 9 months now,LOL...I'm down to the smallest stuff I own now, and don't plan on shopping for stuff unless I have a special occasion, or the clothes are hanging on me!
I am smaller than I was when I took FenPhen 12 years ago! eek
and my PCPs office called after some blood tests last week...I braced myself for bad news, they left a message...she said my glycohemoglobin readings were smack dab in the middle of NORMAL! No more testing for me...and my cholesterol is at 192! at my 9 month check up, my blood pressure was better than it's been in years...but I came off all 4 of my bp meds after surgery!
I'm praying that your 'complications' have been all at the front of this process, and that you'll sail into loserhood with the style and aplomb we've come to know and love from you!
