My step-dad answered her cell phone and told me that she had broken her leg, he had a brain tumor removed and since then has not been all that clear with details as it affected his short term memory. So I called my moms room at the hospital a little while later and it turns out she didn't break her leg, she dislocated and broker her ankle. She is diabetic and her blood sugar levels got to low and she passed out in her bathroom, her foot got stuck under the part of the cabinet that sticks out, she fell straight back and her foot stayed where it was

Sooooo now she has to be off her foot for 4 months!! And I am scheduled for surgery on the 23rd. I am completely lost as to what to do now. My husband will be around and works from home, so he will be there to help me a lot. The problem is that 8 days after my surgery he has to leave and go on a business trip to Hollywood.

Even if everything goes perfect with the surgery, I don't think I can have the kids and I alone that soon. I was told I couldn't lift anything over 20 pounds for a month minimum. My 9 month old weights more than that, then there are the other two kids a 2 year old and a 5 year old. There is someone that can take the two older ones to school and pick them up, but would that be enough?

My husband will only be gone for 3 days, I just don't know what to do. Should I postpone the surgery until after he gets back?
Where are you??

I am in Northern California near Richmond. You replies have helped out a lot I am going to be talking to some people at church and see if they can help me out in the evening.

I may just have to tell my in-laws, as much as I don't want to. I do have two sisters-in-laws that are 14 and having one of them come stay with me would be a huge help. *sigh* better than rescheduling though.

Thank you everyone for helping to sort out some ideas. I was just so overwhelmed and lost I didn't know where to begin.

Don't reschedule. If you are having lap, you should be ok. I had open and was sore for the first week, but got used to it. I am certain if you told a few neighbors you need help with your 9 month, they would help. You will be ok. It is your turn to be nurtured and taken care of.

Hiya Podmate! I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I sure hope she takes good care of her foot, especially with the diabetes. You know I don't have any advice for you, but I wanted to offer you prayers for your mom and for everything working out for your surgery.

I truly hope you dont have to reschedule! Just think, by the time your mom gets back on her feet.. you will be on the losing side! I know you dont want to tell the in-laws.. but having those teenagers around.. would at the very least keep you on schedule for starting your new life...

GOOD LUCK!!!!

I know you are right... but I so was hoping I wouldn't have to

I spoke with my mom today and she is in really bad shape... I wish I was able to go out there an help her out. She is going to have to be in a rehabilitation facility for about 2-3 weeks until she can learn how to get things down with this cast, which is almost up to her hip They have to get her moving or she will end up losing her foot or leg or being in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

So, I am planning on just moving forward with the surgery. I still have to have another conversation or two with my husband... he worries so much about me

I can't tell you all how much it has meant to me that you are offering prayers for my mother and being there for me. As I sit here with tears in my eyes, I wish there was some way I could tell how you have all touched me. Thank you isn't enough and yet there isn't more I can really say.

She is in a cast, and you will have belly surgery.. maybe you guys should still stay together.. you could get her a wheel chair and push her where she needs to be, and she can do the lifting that you cant do? And.. you would have the benefit of not having to worry about each other.. I know I would go nutty if it were my mom..

I'd still bring in the teenagers.. man they have gobs of energy!

I wish I could be near her... she lives in Utah and I am in California She can drive me nuts... but I would be lost without her

I am leaning towards the teens. Talked to my husband and he wants to to go forward with it and if I can't fond some help he is willing to miss his trip Gosh I love him!

IT sounds like you have a keeper there Rachel. That's sweet of him to cancel his trip if necessary. I'm sure if you get an extra hand for those days though you will be fine. You can sit back, heal and supervise. lol
I hope your mom is feeling better soon. A rehab facility should actually be good for her. She will be taught how to do everything with that cast on. A good facility will teach her how to get in and out of cars, into chairs, bed, etc... how to move around the kitchen... oh and how to get on/off the potty! lol
I'll be thinking of her.

I think at 8 days post op you will be fine , I was alone with my 3 year old and he was actually a great " mommys helper" during that time . I was driving and shopping after a week with no problem. I wished you lived closer down this way and I would help you out.
