Starting over
I'm only 6 months out, but the formula is really simple. Burn more than you consume, you know? All those rules still apply.
First step I would take (that I actually took myself last night)
Is to buy a "diet journal" and record EVERYTHING that goes into your body. I'm keeping track of calories, fat, fiber, protein and carbs so that I REALLY know what I'm eating. I also work out every single day and I know that I burn about 450 calories doing that. (sometimes less, sometimes more) I also found out that my resting metabolic rate is around 1600, so I burn 1600 calories a day just doing my normal thing.
The formula is then quite simple. If I eat 1400 calories a day and burn say, 400 at the gym, I'm burning 600 more than I take in each day. If I do this 7 days a week, it adds up to 4200 calories - just over a pound a week. (3500 calories to a pound) If I also keep away from fatty and salty foods, I shouldn't be retaining water, except when Aunt Flo visits. Lastly, no food or drink 3 hours before bed for me - that is when you store carbs as fat.
Now if you don't work out every day, or you burn fewer calories in your workouts, you need to adjust your intake but more than anything - WRITE IT ALL DOWN! I have been terrible about this and I've been shocked at how many calories I really do eat - even with this tiny little pouch! So we always need to be careful and especially watch liquids! They add calories so quickly.
Other than that - emphasize protein, make sure you get enough! and lots of water - no less than 64 oz a day.
It is also possible that you are not eating enough calories, so really write it all down and check in with that.
Good luck - I hope I don't sound preachy, just started this regime to lose my last 50 pounds to!
