Default Interview News

Well guys, I just got back from my interview and I'm afraid the news isn't looking too good.

I met with someone from Human Resources and at first the interview was going to be halted rather abruptly. We discussed the fact that I was a patient of the office and she said unfortunantly the office has a policy of not hiring any of their patients. I did tell her that I had mentioned to the office manager of the surgeon's office that I had applied for a job and that there was nothing mentioned about a policy. So, she decided to continue on with the interview and promised to check to see if they might reconsider or if the policy has changed at all. So, she said she will be checking with the surgeon's office this week for me and will let me know. The person that does the hiring of the nurses isn't the office manager that I spoke to about the application so I'm not holding out much hope. Actually, I may never get to live the dream of working in that office.

It's in God's hands. That's all I can say. I'm upset but I did the best that I could. I'll let you know if anything changes but I'm not planning on it changing.

Hi Beth,

That sucks! BUT, what about working for another Gastric Bypass surgeon??? I know you love yours, but with your experience...you may be able to help a different office be as great as yours was. Just a thought. Hopefully this HR person is just plain wrong!!

I've already thought of that, Cindy. There is one other group in town that does wls. They aren't nearly as progressive as this office but I might be open to working there. The other option that is probably a more real option is working as a staff nurse on the Bariatric Unit in the hospital where I'm working right now. It is the unit that I was on as a patient. There aren't openings there right now but I've seen them listed. So, I guess we shall see.

They may reconsider and change their policy...I hope. They need you there and since you have a great work history and you know the surgeon, maybe they will make an exception. I will still keep thinking positive thoughts for you. They didn't tell you no yet, so you never know. I am hoping for the best for you.

Thank you, Dale. Like I said, I've done what I could. All I can do right now is keep praying about it.

Aww Beth - I hope they change their policy for you - you could offer them sooooo much as a patient and then being on staff - this will be in my prayers!

Default Seems perfect

To have someone who has gone through it right there in the office? Sounds like a HECK of a great resource for them. You'll be a walking billboard!

Hope they think of that! The woman who does "counceling" with my surgeon's practice is a former patient of his - not like no one does this. Well - Good luck in any case and here's hoping that they are as smart as ME!!

Crappy about the policy...doesn't seem fair. I can see it if you don't continue to be their patient, but having been a patient before seems a little unfair. Like you said, it out of your hands.

I really hope they reconsider their policy.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty bummed out about this but I'll keep pushing. If it comes back that the policy is still in place at the least I am going to write the office and let them know that if things should ever change I would be interested. I also plan on offering my time to them in a volunteer role, if they think there is anything I can do that would be beneficial for them and their patients.

I do hope they will look at their policy though. I am pushing being one year out so honestly I won't be having all that much more contact with them as a patient. I have my one year post-op check in the beginning of Feb and then they do continue to follow their patients yearly from then on. So techinically, I will always be an active patient of theirs. We shall see. If anything changes you all will be some of the first to know.

Well I made a decision after talking things over with DH. Man I've become assertive since I had this surgery!!! *L* You know I don't even know myself any more!

I ended up sending an email today to the office manager of my surgeon's office. She and I had talked about my application a couple of weeks ago, after she called me in regards to using my patient testimonial for an award that they were up for. At that time she never mentioned such a policy and actually offered to check into my application for me and try to move things along. I decided to email her to see if she was aware of this policy. I wasn't overly impressed with the HR person. She didn't seem to know much about me before the interview. She didn't even know exactly what job I had applied for and even though I had clearly mentioned that I was a patient of the MMPC Bariatric surgical group, in my cover letter, apparently that little fact was over looked. So, anyway, I don't totally trust her knowledge of all of this and I wanted to hear right from the office about this policy. Maybe if I tickle enough people's ears someone may take a step to pursue this a bit more for me! I can only hope and pray.

Thank you all again for your support. I really do appreciate all of you so much.
