Why in the Hell did I do this?
Here is the thing I am 9 months out and I have only lost 75 pounds. I CAN NOT get past this point. I go from 190 to 200 all the time back and forth. I can't even stand it! I haven't posted in such a long time because what is the point I have nothing to share, no milestones, no WOW monents, nothing! People without the surgery are more successful at weight loss than I am. I am beginning to think I just wasted my time with this surgery and it was the biggest mistake.

I know this may not be much help to you but I want to say this... you had many reasons to have this surgery just like the rest of us did, you are 75 pounds down from where you would be if you hadn't had the surgery and I'm sure you are at the same place I am a platue. I think at some point we all worry deep down that this surgery won't work for us because nothing else ever did so why should this right? Well not true, it's already working and you will drop again just keep eating the right foods and exercising and it will come off. I am one of the slow losers as well and it does bother me, but then I look at how much I have lost and remember I wouldn't be in the place I am today without having the surgery. Keep your chin up and remember you aren't alone out there, some of us just take longer than others... but I think its a good thing in the long run for our bodies.

No wow monents? YOu must be kidding as 75 lbs is awesome! It takes 12-18 months to get to goal. So what you're not the same as the next person. Can you get in and out of your car easier? Can you walk further and longer, can you climb stairs without passing out? It's the little things that make the WOW moments.

April I just think you are being to hard on your self. I think you are doing ok maybe you juat haven't met your expectations. Trust me I haven't had any big WOW moments either but I am so greatful for the weight I have lost. Like I have said before this tool is with you forever. You have the rest of your life to work this tool. There is no reason why you should feel it will stop working after a certain time frame. It will continue to work if you work it. You may not see the results you want to see but it will work. This forum isn't just about wow moments and weight that has been lost it is about support. Rather it be support when times are good and most important when times get bad. I am glad you came by to share this. It is important for you to understand that what you are feeling is normal and you are not the only one that has had these feelings and concerns. Hang in there April.

75 pounds is your WOW!
Aren't you the one who kept telling me not to be so hard on myself? I know you are doing good, besides loosing 75#'s you have a wonderful little ray of sunshine who I know can make you smile anytime she looks at you! You have lost 75#'s and you have made me believe I can do it too. Please don't be so hard on yourself.
I have to work until 10pm every night this week, but I will try and call you over the weekend, if you want to talk before then, call me and let me know it's ok to call you after work.
Keep smilling!

my first post..
this is my first post, but felt compelled to respond to this. It really sounds to me like you need to take out a sheet of paper and make a gratitude list. What it was like, and what it's like now. I can assure you how quickly our brains forget. I have been a slow loser, and even went about 4-6 months without dropping a single pound. Focus on positive, and not negative. Good luck.. Janie

First of all, 75 pounds is a LOT of weight....it is more than my 10 1/2 year old child! That is an awesome feat! I think you are struggling to see the new you. Get out some old photos and clothes and try them on. They will remind you how far you've come. Be proud of your accomplishment....and as Marie said, you had to have had many wow moments along the way. You just need to let yourself have and enjoy them.
Secondly, as Denise said, this board is not about just wow moments. It's about love, understanding, and support. We are here to offer suggestions when you struggle and to encourage you. We are here to listen when life gets stressful and you can't or don't want to eat your emotions anymore. This is not a magic pill or a deal where some of us just easily glide along with no effort. We know the struggles.....the disappointments, and the shadow as old habits come back to haunt. Don't ever hesitate to bring it to the board. We all love and support you.
Thirdly, time to evaluate what you can change, if anything. Are you getting your protein? Are you drinking your liquids? Are you eating healthy most of the time? Are you following the rules about grazing and not eating and drinking? Are you getting some exercise? Are you getting your vitamins? Are you eating ENOUGH calories? Honestly evaluate and see if there is anything that you can change....maybe even one at a time. If not, then your body just needs time to get it's equilibrium. If you have something to try and improve....bring it and we'll offer help! You already know the folks on this board have awesome ideas and experiences to share.
Now, be nice to yourself and give some credit for your hard work!

I have the same challenge!
I went from 287 to 193/197. Cant get past that! It is soooo irritating. I am looking in to plastic surgery, the only problem it's so expensive. I am desperate! Since my mother died 08/14/06 my frustraition on loosing weight has been even harder.

My highest weight was 334 May 05 at my consultation. 321 pre op testing , I have only lost 93 pounds since Sept. 28,2005 , Yes, sometimes I get depressed because I don't see the scale move lower. But do I think the operation was a failure ?? Definately NOT ! My previous diets the most I lost was 30 pounds .I now weigh 228-229. When I went to see my pcp I asked what my lowest weight was when I first saw him.....1984 I was 236 pounds ! When I went and saw my gyno I asked him the same question...his answer....1972 I weighed 212 ! I was 19 years old then . I do not see this as a failure I see this as a way to get my life back on track. What was your highest weight ? When was the last time you weighed what you do now ? Can you keep up with family members ? I'm sorry about your loss of your mother. My mother was kind of the reason I decided on this . She was in the hospital dying of congestive heart failure . I went to visit her and she looked at me and smiled....then she said " I weigh 180 !" she was so happy that she had lost weight....Two days later she died . I didn't want to do that to my kids. Let them see me dying of morbid obesity, heart failure, high blood pressure, diabetes etc. I want them to remember me in a healthy body...
Good Luck,
Sandy

I think Marty's points were best. The big three things we all need to remember. I am almost two years out and I will not hit goal and I am ok with that. As MO people we were so not into the number on the scale why after surgery does that number matter so much?
You do have to look at the brighter side of things and do make list of things comparing before and after. If you could have lost that much weight in that amount of time without surgery, dont you think you would have? Wouldnt any of us?
