Default Personality changing?

In about 2 weeks I am getting my fat man surgery. I read alot about people's personality changing and I am just wondering if my personality will change and how will it change? I have always been miserable because of my weight cuz I couldnt always do the things I wanted because I was too fat and it wouldnt allow it. I dont think I have really ever been happy so I just wanna know what to expect for personality changes or the differences that might happppen.

Wow Chuck, that is a big question. Mine changed in that I became more confident and maybe a little more laid back, and definitely a bit more active and up tempo. But I was making changes prior to surgery, and the decision was part of that growth process. Maybe a good idea would be to journal what would make you happy so you can be sure and do them as the weight comes off. Some of happiness is just about deciding to have it and claiming your own life. I also think some people are depressed, and the obesity aggravates it and separates them from life even moreso, like a vicious cycle. Depression sometimes likely contributes to the obesity to begin with. So, just be open minded about seeking what you need to be healthy in all aspects of life as you lose and get physically healthier. I waited a bit to see how life was and then started counseling to help with balance. Many people go on depression meds at least for awhile (lots of hormonal and depressive things happen physicallty after surgery during the rapid loss). So, I think you will be you........only better and healthier.

Thanks for the responce. I just dont want my personality to change in a way which will drive my friends away or people I care about. Im just getting more nervous as the time comes closer and closer I think.

Regardless of the surgery, as you mature, you will have changes in how you relate to others. For me, having the surgery brought me back to my true self and personality that was hidden beneath the fat.

This is true....it kind of gives the confidence to be who you wanted to be. The thing is, the better my self esteem, the less I care what others think. I tend to feel that if you are you, and you still love the same people, treat them well, and communicate, then if they no longer want the same relationship with you it is their issue. That might be hurtful to find out, but sometimes we don't realize until a major change what our relationships are built on. Amazingly enough, I would say all but one of my friends/family have been the same or stronger.....and the one that has weakened is my friend who did the whole process and had the surgery a week before me.

Getting thin is sorta like becoming a celebrity in a way. They say I haven't changed, but the people around me have changed.

I absolutely have found that some people's attitudes and reactions to me have changed because of a newly re-found confidence and happiness that perhaps they have never seen in me before, or haven't seen in a long time anyhoo. I suppose it can be annoying! lol

Case in point I think is Star Jones! :P

Does that make sense?

I've often wondered if my personality will change. I know I will change as far as my energy level and willingness to volunteer for projects at work that require getting up and down, walking farther than my desk etc...allow me to be more of a team player to folks, rather than the silent partner, hiding in the corner.

Totally Agree!!!! that has happened to me too, a different person was hidden behind all that fat.
